Neil Young

Anyone bought Mr Young's archives volume 1 and if so which format. Uncut gave it 5 stars but the reviews on Amazon are less than favourable.

Thanks
Gary

Not bought it - but I can understand the Amazon comments....
- price, lots of stuff you already have (including issued very recently) and that the CD standard set looks very poor value for money.
I think the option that Neil himself recommends is the blu ray one but...
I can't play it on my CD555 (or Sondek for that matter)!!

I am not going to bother. Agree with what Richwleeds says.

Neil Young has written some songs of utter beauty. Heart of Gold; Harvest Moon... simply wonderful.

...A friend of mine (and a big fan) has just bought the CD set and thinks it's excellent - Some fascinating early recordings on there which will probably mostly appeal to the Neil acolytes.

I haven't yet heard any reports about how good the Blu-Ray version sounds yet ....but Neil has always had a thing about Hi-Res sound ...his favourite format is 2 channel DVD-A (rather than the usual 5.1) but the demise of that format has led him to utilise Blu-Ray ..Whether that format succeeds where DVD-A and DTS/SACD failed is open to debate.

Personally I feel It would be a real shame if such Hi Res Surround formats didn't become part of a niche market at least.

Not going to bother. Don't have a Blu ray machine and don't want to pay the price.

For now I will do the same, but if I can get a deal on the CDs I will go for it.

Amazon Marketplace has a US-based seller offering the CD set @ £51. I am very tempted at that price.
