Ittok setup questions

Posted by: Mekon on 19 April 2003

I've just had an Ittok (& DV 10X5) fitted to my LP12. Sounds great. Only problem is, after getting home, I realised that the arm height is set so low that the arm lift doesn't lift sufficiently. I've never been great at manual cueing, and I would be useless if beer entered the equation. Is it something I could adjust myself to save the palaver of traipsing down the dealers? I am eyeing that grub screw, as I'd guess thats how I could loosen it. I am utterly hamfisted, should I leave it alone?

Also, any ideas on best settings for the DV? The dealer suggested that both dials at 2, and just to balance (more difficult than I thought) the arm with the counterweight. Initially it was set at 1.9 (recommended range is 1.8 - 2.2). but it jumped out of the groove on a widely spaced EP.

Sounds to me like the arm is not set up correctly, unless the cart is VERY tall. You could always put something on the lift to make it taller (i.e. some rubber or plastic tubing or the like) but I'm going to guess that the arm needs more attention from the dealer. Worth a call at least I'd say.
Good luck and enjoy the Ittok!

After thinking about it a bit, I'm going to say that the arm is not set up correctly. I can't imagine that cartridge size would matter in this geometry.
Give them a call, that's why they get the big bucks for this sort of thing.

Hi Mekon:

Most DVs work well at 2g. If it's jumping out of the groove it's likely that the cart' needs to run in (say 20-30 hours) to get it loosened up a bit. If it continues to jump then I'd suspect that you've either inadvertently set the VTF incorrectly or the Ittok has sticky bearings.

The cueing post has a small allen bolt securing it. Yoo can easily loosen this bolt and adjust the cue height.

I hadn't balanced it properly before - it's fine now I have Smile.

Thanks for the help, the guys at PFM also tipped me off about the post. I'll have to get some small allen keys, none of mine fit.

Cheers.
