single amping

hi there
since i am never going to bi-amp my b&w 602.5 s3's i would like to remove the binding post brackets (probably not the right term!) that connect the two positives and negatives. Is it just a matter of removing the speaker inputs and internaly connecting the tweeter wires to the lower terminals or am i going to regret this and have to buy a new set of speakers (i know i should get real speakers but i haven't any real money) and voiding my warranty. Or perhaps i should buy a second set of plugs and a little cabling and attach some "jumpers" to the ends of the speaker connects for the tweets.

The best way is to ask your dealer (is it John?) to add 2 banana plugs at the speaker end of your NACA5. We call it the "F" terminal. This way, you remove the bracket and fit the 4 plugs on your speakers 4 binding-posts. It sounds much better than the bracket and is very neat.

John is the "Niam Man" round these parts. I figured that would be the way to go, thanks i'll take my cables to the shop and have them fitted with the extra plugs. Since you know John, you must also know what they have speaker-wise, can you recommend something sub-2000$.

I know John personnaly, but i have never been at his store (as you can see, I`m from the other side), better see yourself and ask him.

Use the Naim cable as jumpers: Cut 4 small pieces, strip the cable sleeve and expose the wires at both ends. Replace the B&W jumpers with these and the sound will improve. This works for all speakers not only B&W. No changes to the internal wiring.

Tuan,
The problem with your advice is the wire takes room inside the binding post and the banana doesn`t go as deep inside. With the stiffness of the NACA5, one plug can easily go out.

Thanks mad max
they certainly are easy to listen to. no problem sitting in front of them for 4 or 5 hours at a time, no fatigue. they do crap out though when dynamics are high (have to ride the volume a bit).
as for putting a cable between the upper and lower binding posts Manu is correct, the naim plug is too long to accomodate an extra cable in there. i think a short piece of naca and some decent spade plugs will the way to go.

"they do crap out though when dynamics are high"

You might want to try bi-amping them ,thankfully B&W have provided this option
by installing 2 sets of binding post you just have to remove the links.

So, you have 2 choices:
Wait for the divorce to buy the second amp, in fact one and half amp.
Buy a cheap amp, looking good, she'll go with it and you have saved your Naim. Big Grin
