Foobar driving me mad!!

Posted by: gypsykirk on 11 June 2010

Ok, I use dbpoweramp to convert to flac (archival) and wav.

Wav with Foobar sounds best (to me), I recently made aiff conversions (from flac) as I'd decided that practically this would be the best solution, for album art, tags, iphone, playlists, lossless etc, in itunes and be done with it.

but i can't bring myself to use it as it doesn't even sound as good as flac through foobar with asio4all driver.
I downloaded that darkonev2.1, which looks great but tbh this foobar is driving me nuts!!!!!
between showing different artwork to what is playing and organising songs in any order but the order they're on on the album and just being user unfriendly it's pissin me off big time here!
I mean, i convert from flac to aiff and itunes does everything else, it has all the artwork, everythings in it's place...why the hell doesn't foobar do this, why is there a million and one bloody settings on it??, so you can sit for hours and hours deciphering it to then make it work like itunes??

why does media monkey put everything in it's place with wav apart from artwork? , this is fine, it's alot easier to just add artwork to your wav files.

Jeese, CD players are so much easier than this!!!!

I am very happy to help.

One tip (known bug) with the remote app.

If there are NO playlists in "PL" when you open the Remote app it will not find anything until you maually play something in Foobar itself.

Is there is at least one playlist it will connect every time very quickly.

Just in case you think the remote app wont connect for some unknown reason.

Rich,

not sure what you are referring to. Given the quote you cited, I guess you mean the APPLE remote app not working perfectly for FOOBAR.

Yes it is not perfect. But it is awesome. It is 98% complete.

Keep in mind that this is "hijacking" the Remote App. Confusing it so it thinks Foobar is iTunes. Brilliant really. Especially given the fact that the component developer does all of the work for free.

There hasn't been an update lately, but I couldn't care less as it works so well now.

Known Issues:
- No "jump letters" in Artist and Album view. They are there and work, but just not labeled. The dev was trying to figure out how to handle non-Latin letters and hasn't gotten there yet.

- Not connecting if there are no playlists. Easy to remedy by not deleting the "Remote View" playlist.

Hey Patrick, how goes it?
I wasn't sure whether to continue here or go over to your dedicated thread, I'm thinking here is probably best.
OK.....
I think I'm in control with my playlists now Smile,
however, i like you, do not wish to configure double click as suggested.

What is a little annoying, when configuring playlists is, the fact that, if I have my playlist highlighted, I'm in the "al" and I'm just adding away to my hearts content...until however, i wish to listen to a tune quickly, to see if i wanna add it.
Alot of my music requires me to do this (foreign artists, titles etc) so I am constantly switching between pl to select the relevant playlist again and "al" to listen to a track before i add it. Not a massive concern, just a little annoying.

The big problem is the remote!!!! It just doesn't work very well IMO!
eg...
The first thing that happened was i went to shuffle a playlist is, it crashed and i lost the playlists! not a big problem, I was only experimenting anyway.
However, the big let down with it is (after some trial and error)....

To have your music collection available to you, you MUST select "remote selection" on foobar on the computer!!!! this is the only way to select an album on remote and it will play the ablums tracks consecutively, display artwork on pc, then allow you to keep changing artists albums etc!!, the big problem with this is, if you now want to listen to a playlist you NEED to get up and select it in "pl" on computer or after the first track on the playlist you have selected, has played, it'll revert back to the previous album playing instead of playing the playlist in it's entirety too....don't know why this is, it's a shame because it's almost there i would say!
Cheers.

Gypsy,

for the sake of continuity and future reference for others, I will respond to this in the other thread.

Hi DoctorJazz,

May I ask how you managed to get a version of the Nightfly in 24/96?

Thanks
