Which Al***s Do You Demand Are Re-released Immediately?

The Morph the Cat thread got me thinking about stuff that's scandalously unavailable and needs to be re-released right now.
For a kick off, Tim Buckley's Starsailor.

This is predictable coming from me, in that I'm a huge Bruce Springsteen fan, but with the exception of Born to Run which recently was remastered to celebrate its 30th anniversary, virtually all of Bruce's work prior to the fairly recent Live in NYC - particularly the early studio albums - could benefit greatly by a remastering. In a heartbeat I would go out and repurchase all of his studio albums if remastered (thereby passing my copies on to my kids as part of my longstanding efforts to brainwash them into liking Daddy's music).

The entire Shirley Collins catalogue should be available for all if only to stop this: great record, rip off price. That's not mine for sale BTW.
The entire HMHB Peel Sessions should rereleased too.
Also I'd like to see the complete Beatles on carefully remastered CDs.

It is more or less a scandal that Ella Fitzgerald's recordings are so terribly unavailable.
I have standing order with my record shop to put on hold any re-issues from her!
On the classical side, I would hope that one day DG Archiv might deem it sensible to either lend the tapes to Testament, or re-issue the following themselves. It is out of copyright now, so I vote for Testamant in this case, and they do have a small relationship with Universal.
Bach Brandenberg Concertos. Scola Cantorum Basiliensis directed by August Wenzinger.
Also it would be splendid if EMI or Virgin might re-release the same music from The Linde Consort under HM Linde. Then I could recomend my favourite versions of this music, though fortunately Adolf Busch's set is out on Pearl, and in a very respectable transfer.

Thinking at the other end of the classical spectrum, I would be very pleased if Testamant would release the 1953 HMV recording of the Enigma Variations of Elgar, which I still think is the finest I know! [LPO, Boult].
Perhaps Decca might consider Alfredo Campoli's wonderful (stereo) recording of Elgar's Violin Concerto as well. Better stop now!

Mozart's 23rd piano concert, Horowitz with Giulini and the La Scala orchestra. It is a scandal that it's only available as part of a six disc DG box set (though, in fairness, that too is worth having).
Also, and I don't know if this actually exists anywhere but if the BBC ever broadcast the Mackerras/ENO Ring cycle and they haven't wiped the tapes, I would love to hear it.
regards, Tam

Talking about the Brandenburg concertos I would like someone to rerelease the first
Karl Ristenpart recording, originally released 1953 by The French Record Club.
Only his second set from 1965 has been rereleased (in mono even originally recorded
in stereo - ought to be rereleased in stereo).
And Eratos two sets with Kurt Redel from 1956 and 1962.
And the first Friedrich Tilegant set from ca. 1961 (originally released by Eurodisc).
And the Thurston Dart set from 1958 (originally L´oiseau lyre).
And many more.

And just to be perverse, for geeky Zimmie completists like me,73'Dylan: A Fool Such As I'. So bad its said to make Self Portrait sound good. A bunch of studio outtakes released by Columbia in a tantrum as Zimmie had just signed to Geffen.

I had Blues For The Fishermen by the Milcho Leviev Quartet, with Art Pepper, on vinyl. It doesn't seem to be available on CD and it's a wonderful album.

I forgot the Bach violin-harpsichord sonatas with Henryk Szeryng and Helmut Walcha (Philips), probably because Szeryng isn´t my cup of tee for Bach.

Good call - a truly amazing album. Martha & the Muffins were responsible for Echo Beach - one of the very best singles of all time, the third album This is the ice age is one of my favourite albums - why is so difficult to get hold of the remastered CD.

Swimming
Women Around the World at Work
Casualties of Glass
Body Without Filters
Jets Seem Slower in London Skies
This Is the Ice Age
One Day in Paris
You Sold the Cottage
Three Hundred Years/Chemistry
I'm No Good At Conversation (Not on LP)
Twenty-Two In Cincinnati (Not on LP)

I would love to hear Mike Stern's - Standards (and other songs) which is out of print.
I've had the pleasure of meeting Mike (twice) and buying his 'These Times' CD off him, but he too did not have a copy of the mentioned album.
If anyone here has a copy, i'd love to know what they think of the album.

Defenitely the first Faust album, the one on clear vinyl in the see-through sleeve... A friend of mine has it and I'm jalous as sin.

Why Don't You Eat Carrots?
I suspect you're after the clear vinyl - I have it on CD as part of Wumme Years 1970-73. It is available on CD coupled with So Far, but I don't think I've seen a vinyl copy for years.

Faust, 'The Faust Tapes'.
Having been introduced to Faust quite recently by a friend, I noticed my local s/h record shop - King's Lynn, Norfolk - had/has one, last time I was in (though I actually got mine pretty cheaply from a record fair, of which we seem to have quite a number in Norfolk, and my main source of vinyl).
I meant that as a helpful point - the vinyl IS around, you just have to be patient.

You can get a remastered vinyl copy of So Far from The Freak Emporium, but the first album is not available so unfortunately there is no vinyl remaster of Why Don't You Eat Carrots?, which is my favourite Faust track.

OK ROTF, rubbi-tin
. Have you got the first Raincoats album BTW? That would be worth reissuing. Or Earth Opera's first and early Cabaret Voltaire?
Have fun!

Faust So Far on Vinyl
Willem
You got me there, I don't have the first Raincoats album or Earth Opera's first or any Cabaret Voltaire.
I think the rarest record I have is "Lucy Leave" by The Screaming Abdabs who later changed their name to The Pink Floyd Sound and then just Pink Floyd. I wonder what happened to them. However most of my records are not very rare. I wish lots more rare tracks were released on CD to stop people getting ripped off, it is shame if somebody would like to hear a track, but can't because to do so would cost a fortune. It's wonderful to see the whole Rubble series on 20 CDs as it contains all the most vital late 60s tracks from British psych.
There are lots of German bands that I like too - none more than Amon Duul II. I also wish that someone would release all the Floh De Cologne albums with a little book that had an English translation of the texts. A friend translated Fließbandbabys Beat-Show for me, but it was hard work fo him, as not even German text is printed on the sleeve.
All the best, Rotf

Walcha's Bach Well Tempered Clavier and Goldberg Variations (on harpsichord) - Fredrik tells me they're wonderful, and I'd like to get both these works on these instruments. Actually, it seems to be available on the French amazon, so at some point.....

DG should really have rereleased by now Bernstein's Bavarian RSO Amnesty International all Beethoven concert comprising Leonora 3 Overture, Fourth Piano Concerto (with Claudio Arrau!) and the Fifth Symphony (which trashes his later Wiener PO account).
Why no decent remastering of Abbado's famous Tchaikovsky Fourth with the Wiener PO?
And what about EMI giving us a decently remastered de Sabata Verdi Requiem?

They certainly should. And given all the rather mediocre stuff of his they've been sticking in boxes lately, it is an absolute mystery.
I'd also like to see his LSO Mahler 2 (which is his best reading of the symphony - and has Janet Baker - but is currently only on DVD).
