Does anyone have a view whether a stageline is as good as a prefix in a non LP12 installation?
As you all are probably tired of hearing by now, I use a Well Tempered. It has female phono sockets at the back and I have taken my old Prefix K and had male phonos put on it where the Aro connector used to be, this is plugged into the back of the WT.
Presumably with the stageline, I need to have another length of cable (female phonos) to connect the WT to the stageline, but it does allow more flexibilty of placement, and maybe the case of the stageline allows more isolation from RF. However the downsides are that I lose the benefits that accrue from the shortened tonearm cable of the prefix.
Views welcome,

I have heard the Prefix in an LP12/Aro etc and it sounded great..but no way as good as my WT. :-) It would be interesting to hear a Prefixed WT, but my gut feeling is no, I am not sure why.??
I would get something heavy under the WT..Do you just stand yours on Mana?? Have you tried the DV p-100 phone stage? If you use a DV cartridge, then it works well!
Are there any other forum users with a Prefix / Not LP12, say P9???
Cheers

Thanks for that.
I have a custom made piece of slate for the WT, as well as Mana.
Both work well (different as opposed to better)

Goose and Dev
I use a WT also and have the same arrangement as Dev - modified prefix into Hi-cap and 52.
I have to admit that it made a huge difference to the sound compared with the on board naim cards.
As far as I am aware (and I think Naim themselves said this) the stageline sounds inferior to the prefix. I can see Dev's point of siting the damn thing though - I have never heard the DV amp but have heard good thing about it.
Re supports mine is on a heavy sideboard and will be getting an additional slab of slate soon.

I bought a paving slab at the w/e to site under the WTR, but unfortunatley it was half an inch too small. Have you done any comparisson between a 'paving slab' and a crafted piece of marble. Any thoughts..?? How thick is your marble slab?
What cartridge have you two got?

I don't know whether this picture will work, but I got a piece of slate custom made from a stonemason - it is the exact dimensions (height x width x depth) of the well tempered plinth. I have also put some Naim CDS metal feet to the underside of the slate to decouple the weight of it (30kg!!!) from the equipment stand. At the rear of the slate plinth I got a channel machined out for the prefix, which sits on the underside of the deck.
I can email you the picture directly if it doesn't work here.

Dev
ps. having said all that I have found something that I like more than the Well Tempered so I'm selling it.
pps. I use a Linn Arkiv B, Prefix K and HiCap

I didn't get the photo, but not to worry, perhaps mail it if U want.
Thanks for the reply about the slate. Interesting about the CDS feet on the slate.Have you listened to the WT Reference yet? I don't think that you have that model, You have a Super?? Also a DV XV1 in a Reference IMO is nearly unbeatable, certainly creams an Archiv :-) ( obviously IMO) give it a go!
what TT have you heard now?? I would be interested!!
