Not at that price. A bit like selling you something you all ready own methinks.
One for the completists.

I would like a nice box set of vinyl.
Munch,
That's exactly my thoughts. At the last Heathrow show I was talking to the guys from Diverse Vinyl about why EMI had not done a 40th anniversary vinyl edition of Piper At The Gates Of Dawn and they said that they had been harassing their distributor about it to now avail and that they'd missed the opportunity to do a 30th anniversary edition of Wish You Were Here as well. So a vinyl box set looks unlikely, I feel.
Though, PULL YOU FINGER OUT EMI is my feelings.

EMI have always seemed the most perverse company. Their catalogue is one to rival any of the competition, and yet their policy of issuing things or more precisely not issuing things that would sell like mad is a casue of considerable head shaking, whether it be from their classical side or their recordings in a more popular vein!
I sometimes wonder how they continue in business. It was ever thus. When Elgar was their most significant [in terms of world fame] conducting artists, many were the times when a recording would be planned and excecuted to be available for the Autumn releases, which even in 78 days was the boom sales period. Everything went well and they released the issues in the January supplement! Elgar more than once sent telegrams to Hayes to find out what on earth was holding things up! frequently they held onto recordings for years before issuing them as well. This may have been related to having too many new releases out at any time, but it still seems odd.
Plus ca change...

There was no 40th anniversary Sgt Pepper in any format so I wouldn't hold my breadth for a vinyl Piper.
This box-set has no interest for me at all. It's just a collection of stuff that most of us already have. The price is ludicrous - I think it would be cheaper to just collect the individual re-mastered CDs. They are available and you often see them in HMV for around £5. A 2 CD Saucer with the obvious bonus tracks would have interested me.
EMI has a superb catalogue that extends far beyond just making the already available, available again in different packaging. Does EMI have any executives that like music? I wonder. Even if they don't, sensibly planned re-releases would earn them money ... it's a gas, grab that cash with both hands and make a stash ...
Oh well, Rotf
Thanks for the info Mike.

Some of the Floyd Limited editions came out in Japan on the 3/10. Next batch is due out on the 31/10. The outer box that hold all the discs is usually given away free in Japan by Record Stores like Disc Union. The companies don't usually put them out.
Of course Japanese collecters put the empty outer boxes on eBay for loads of cash. I saw one recently go for £75. Not bad for something you got for nothing. Here's a link for the Floyd discs. They are not the cheapest but you get loyalty bonus discounts which you can use on you next order.

Munch,
Is that Vinyl or CD?
ROTF,
I was flabbergasted (great word!) that they did not release a Sargeant Peppers 40th anniversary edition. I have the Pet Sounds 40th anniversary edition on 2 slabs of vinyl (mono and Stereo) that sound great. EMI seem to not have a clue about business.
A question , which part of the UK music buying public spends the most?
A) 10 to 30 years old, or
B) 30 to 60 years old.

I thought EMI was owned by a private equity company now?
This would fit with trying to scrape any money left out of the business then dump it.

ok here goes-ill try to keep it short n sweet.
for nearly 25yrs i was a steeplejack and painted most of the power stations along the river and thames estuary. we were working on the battersea p/s one day when we were approached by a film crew who wanted to do a shoot (they didnt tell us what for) but they wanted us to attach a wire in the permanent fixings that were there for years between 2 of the stacks...we tried to explain that they were old and really should be replaced with new fixings. the wire was fixed nonetheless.
the next day (quite windy) they attached what we thought was a deflated baloon, of course when it was inflated we all knew what it was.
the crew began filming and the rest is history.
we didnt get anything even a ticket to the show which i thought was a bit mean but there you go!
funny story to come out about the pig was that a pilot of a plane coming into heathrow radioed into the control tower "you aint gonna beleive this BUT pigs DO FLY"

It's all blindingly clear now. Thanks scotty.
Don't know how you could steeplejack, I used to get scared witless climbing a 28 foot telegraph pole.I have been higher but not for long.

Hello Scotty,
You should have got something for that.
I recently bought the 'Echoes' vinyl box set, a very nice package.
I'm okay with heights, it's depths I don't like.
Regards
George.

Be aware that Customs are watching the Amazon.com stuff that comes in. I have been stung for duty several times this year.

Can be up to 40% I've heard. It seems to be a throw of the dice which decides. If you have a "relation" in the US that can receive them and then can send them on as second hand gifts, usually misses the scrutiny.

Munch, it's VAT + duty I think. Howard's advice is sound. The Amazon packaging is too easy to spot. Having said al that I have followed Scotty and ordered the 17 disc version from .com! They also have a 16 disc version but it's $205. All very confusing.
