Yeah every single auction is a complete rip off and all the members are out to screw you.

I don't think it's that bad but you just need to be careful. A good tip if your not sure is to ask if collection is possible, if not, walk away, 9 out of 10 times means it's bogus and any decent flee bayer will always give you that option.

Yea, I don't think Ebay is rotten...just take precautions. I've done some good deals on Ebay, and met some very decent folks.

Agree totally - it is a site I never use and don't suppose I ever will.

I think perhaps you missed BigH's tone there....
It isn't a complete 'sewer'. There are lots of genuine items to be had by lots of very good vendors. I've bought tubes, interconnects, amps, not to mention hundreds of albums and haven't been screwed once. The only time something didnt arrive, the vendor reimbursed me fully.
Exercise caution, do your research and use your gut instinct.

yes, i'm sure bigh was being sarcastic. of course 99% of the deals are fine on ebay. but 1% can be a drag when it's you. i just had a bad ebay experience, so that on top of multiple scam reports here lead me to ... a sewer? whatever.

Logic dictates that if you're going to spend a few hundred quid, take precautions.
Whatever happened to 'Caveat emptor'?

"caveat emptor" doesn't really work when your cc # has been stolen.

err...I don't really see what's wrong with someone making a living buying stuff and selling it on eBay. As long as the description is accurate and the buyer is happy, then surely it's a free market. I've looked at some of the kit that seller has offered, and it seems OK, and the feedback looks good. At least with Naim equipment, you can easily check its pedigree with a quick call to Salisbury.
If you're buying high value kit on eBay, it only makes sense to take precautions, and as Cyrene says, trust your instinct - it's a greatly overlooked facility.
I think the days of eBay Naim bargains are over, as many final prices exceed classified prices in other places, but eBay has a much wider (and possibly more dodgy) audience.
Cheers

To read these threads on e-bay, you'd think that there were no other types of scam. If you are a nervous person steer clear. The vast, and I mean vast majority of transactions pose no problem at all.
It's pretty easy to spot a scam too once you've hung around a while. Anyone trying to get you to contact them outide of the messaging system is one of the most obvious.
