Sounds exciting.
Is it a Blue nile tour without 2/3 of the blue nile?
we should collectively make an effort to look out for and post when other venues are announced.
Cheers for spotting this.

Simon,
Paul's heading South
........................... just added : royal liverpool philharmonic may 23
According to glasgow's royal concert hall Box Office yesterday, Paul is Solo. Really looking forward to seeing him finaly though.
The Acoustic Live tracks in KCRW studios are worth catching, Stunning voice.
Set: Easter Parade, Because Of Toledo, She Saw the World, A Walk across the Rooftops, Heatwave & Let's Go Out Tonight.
Is it simple to record Internet broadcasts? I would have liked to have recorded the Radio 2's Richard Ashcroft concert and Mark Radcliffes Kate Bush Interview.

Excellent news - but why solo. Perhaps he's about to release a solo album@
Thanks so much for KCRW link. I'm recoring it now but the quality is not great, but the arrangements are fab.
What occurs to me is that like so many artists nowadays PB may have live cds for sale at the gigs.
Denis - recording I use Audacity, a free prog with a recording facility.

Just to clarify 'Solo'; it's a PB Band (musicians TBA) not Blue Nile. Sorry for any confusion.

Thanks for the Audacity tip, I'll try it now. Another good site if you like Webcasts is Studio M. It not only delivers balanced Album reviews I use for my Porcupine Tree video fix (before their DVD release this year). Check out the Acoustic set @ Relapse Records in Philly by Steven Wilson & ex drummer Chris Maitland Here.

This must count as the single most useful thread in the Music Room!
This tour would almost certainly have slipped under my radar. Instead I have 2 tickets for the Liverpool Phil and I am really looking forward to the gig.
Thanks

Just booked my tickets for the Barbican. This is my most anticapated gig since Steely Dan, although I might enjoy the view of Gilmour in my (hopefully) close seat @ RAH.
Both Bristol & Brighton Box Offices open @ 10.00 this morning.

Effinell, Denis!! I just got two front row seats at The Barbican!!!!!!!!! Thank you for the info. I saw Brian Wilson in Brighton last year. Am I destined to see any more musical heroes shortly?
How about a Naim Forum members drink before the show? There are some rather grand pubs not so far from The Barbican.
Why is PB touring alone? Are The Blue Nile no more?

Graham,
My tickets arrived yesterday, Row 'K' for me. I think this will be a week to remember; Gilmour on Tuesday and PB Friday.
Naim the Pub and I'll meet you under the clock, wearing black shoes
I'm afriad my only source of info is the Blue Nile web site . There is no indication of BN folding or PB promoting a Solo Album. Things may become clearer as the tour band is announced.

No news on why Robert Bell and Paul Joseph Moore are not touring with PB but...
In my 'Burning Shed' mail update I saw and ordered this:-
steve adey - all things real (cd preorder)
The debut album by the Edinburgh based singer-songwriter, mixed and mastered by Calum Malcolm (The Blue Nile, Prefab Sprout). The record is a slow-burning intimate collection of piano-led, filmic, wide-screen songs, packed with emotional drive. Includes a remarkable cover of Bob Dylan's 'Shelter From The Storm' - a slow piano-vocal ballad that builds to a cacophony - and also a take on the mighty Bonnie Prince Billy song 'I See A Darkness'.
'On the one hand, the mournful, home-made alt-country of Will Oldham and Smog; on the other, the pristine atmospheres of the Blue Nile and Talk Talk....If you like the people Adey likes, you'll welcome his arrival' - Sunday Times, Record of the Week ****
Released on 6/3/2006 - Preorder now for £10.00 (including VAT)
I really love the Johnny Cash/Will Oldham duet on 'I See A Darkness' from Solitary Man.
Graham,
Naim that PUB for pre show refreshments.

As I said, there are quite a few there. Problem is that The Barbican is a concrete jungle dropped into the middle of old higgledy-piggledy City streets, so it's easy for someone unfamiliar with the area to get lost. Let me do a further bit of "recce" on the area, looking through strangers' eyes (as it were) and I'll come up with a suggestion of a good place that's also easy to find.
Oh, and isn't Solitary Man a great album (as are all the Cash Rubin/American series)?

latest news...
paul will be onstage with a full band - the names of all musicians will be announced over the next couple of weeks.
BTW
Iv'e had the steve adey - all things real album a couple of weeks now. Sparse and atomospheric, Steve has an excellent voice and performs I See A Darkness with real emotion. On the track Find the way, it's very much Paul Buchanan, with McGarrigle sisters sound alikes for back up singers. Check Steve Adey for some good length samples.

I bumped in to Paul recently and he told me the other guys have family commitments, so they are not really involved these days. 'High' was almost totally played and performed by Paul Buchanan and Calum Malcolm, but Robert Bell does all the admin from his home.
As for the Steve Adey album 'All Things Real' - its sublime! Similar in some ways to the Nile, but there is whole other, almost Americana feel to it. Calum Malcolm also produced Adey's album. It actually brings back the feeling of listening to the early Blue Nile and later Talk Talk albums. There is alot of mileage in the listening. Its the best records I bought this year and its a debut. Paul is also a fan.
Will be interesting to find out what the line-up will be for the solo shows! I'm going Glasgow on the Friday and Saturday.

Went along to the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall last night. It was the first time I had seen any of the Blue Nile on stage and again, thanks for posting details as it would have slipped by.
Impressions?
Certainly the best sounding gig ever. Very simple stage set with minmal lighting but all very effective. Paul Buchanan seemed quite nervous but the warmth in the concert hall was palpable and he seemed to gain in confidence as the show progressed.
The playing was absolutely sublime and as with a lot of music the songs seem to take on another life. They played material from all 4 albums and I wish it had lasted another hour.
For those of you still to attend you are in for a real treat.

I have a spare ticket (stalls - row 'k') for Friday night at the Barbican. Anyone interested can email via my profile (hope this is ok Adam).
Graham,
Any luck with the pub "recce"? Richards review suggests the gig will be memorable, can't wait.

A review in yesterday's Independent gave the (Gateshead?) concert five stars out of five.
I'd suggest meeting at The Hand and Shears, 1 Middle Street, Cloth Fair, at 6pm. I'm not clever enough in the ways of computerese to post a map. But maybe, if there's interest, someone else could.

I've been let down for my spare ticket by three people in turn! So that's another available for someone else - Row B in the stalls, right at the very front.

If ANYONE would like to see Paul Buchanan at the Barbican TONIGHT, there are TWO tickets available. If you can attend, Graham amyself will be in The Hand and Shears, 1 Middle Street, Cloth Fair from 6PM (near Barbican Underground).
As Blue Nile release so few albums and tour even less, this is an opportunity not to miss.
I will check the Forum right up to 5PM for any takers.

Im off with four friends - two who have no knowledge of his music. I hope they get converted and I hope that he manages to capture the magic of the blue nile recordings.
Doubt if there will be too much stage diving though.

Paul
At the Barbican he was just sensational.
The London crowd were reverential from the word go. Fastastic performance and playing throughout. Two new tunes sounded totally inplace with the quality of all the back catalogue material. He even took the digs from the crowd regarding his rate of musical output with good grace and humour.
It was just one of the concerts when the live version more than matched the incredibly high expectation I have gained through twenty years of loving the recorded version.
I was lucky enough to briefly chat with him and get his autograph in the foyer afterwards. He appeared genuinely moved by the crowd response and comes across as a modest, humble and friendly guy who just happens to be a musical genious with a breathtaking voice.
Brilliant gig.

Great, wasn't it (I've been away on holiday in the meanwhile). There were a few oddities with amps or speakers cutting out, though.
I'd certainly have hung around if I'd known that PB was going to be in the foyer afterwards. Was Robert Bell there too?

I was expecting PB to be somewhat reticent, but he controlled the crowd with confidence as the well meaning banter increased. There was no answer from Paul though when he was advised to release "the fu*ker, immdeately", on airing his first new song. It was great to hear a concert centred around the voice and though quiet at times, it made you concentrate more. How did you friends like it, are they converted?
I saw a friend afterwards and he said there were only 300 or so at Brighton the night before. Even so the performance was stunning and he thought it better than the Barbican, Blimey!
I met Graham for pre gig drinks and we were both mystified that the Barbican wasn't sold out either (nearly full though).
Apparently this tour was put together on a whim, so 20 months after the release of 'High'; by BN standards this was a snap decision.
A great night that will stay in the memory and who knows, a full Blue Nile tour sooner than we think?
