Patti rocks!!!!!!!!!

Hi

Did anyone manage to see Patti smith last night at Shepherds Bush Empire?

Whenever I see her and her band, they make it to my shortlist for gig of the year, this lady still rocks, and Lenny Kaye has no right to look so good after almost 30 years of touring!

Good light show too.

Nah

Wanted to go but commitments at home and generally being knackered prevented me from doing so. Glad to hear she was good. What was the setlist?

Can't give you the complete setlist, it was a
2 1/2 hour show with no encore, they had to close at 11pm.

some new stuff plus old faves:
Dancin barefoot
Pissing in a River
Because The Night
Horses
Rock n' Roll Nigger
Frededrick
Beneath The Southern Cross
Summer Cannibals
Wing
People Have The Power (nice George Dubya rant)

And a song called I think "1959" which I didn't recognise, but was very good.

The two lead guitars certainy work for me.

That's all I can remember at the moment, normally tape these things but didn't last. night.

Sounds like it was quite the show. Time to dig out the old Patti Smith bootleg lps for that raw edge to her live performances.

Might one of the boots be "Lets Deodorise The Night" live at the Bottom Line in I think 1975?Someone just gave me a CDr of this and it was a radio broadcast, so the sound is reasonable, nice set, with some spoken word.

I'm glad to hear that Patti is casting her spell in England this summer. She is really one of the last of the line of the more loose, freewheeling American performers, like Dylan, or Garcia and his era of the Dead, where the performances are clearly not as scripted as the norm in concert acts today. If you don't have them, I would heartily endorse Patti's post retirement albums, particularly her brilliant "Gung Ho", but also "Gone Again" and "Peace and Noise". 1959 is from Peace and Noise.

Cheers

Thanks for the "1959" tip, must get that one and "Gung Ho" that'll complete my collection.

I always catch Patti when she's in the UK and she never disappoints, gig of the year in 2002 at a small club in Brighton, where she announced "When I grow up I'm coming to live in Brighton!"

Cheers

Saw her 2 or 3 years ago at Brixton Academy.
She came onstage and read 'piss factory.
Absolute silence from the audience.
She then launched into mega thrashy number.
Best start to a concert i've seen.
