Yamaha DSP E800 upgrade
Posted by: Mike Gundry on 27 July 2009
Hi I was thinking of upgrading my Yamaha DSP E800 which I've had for 13 years as just bought a PS3 to play bluray disc's and thinking it might sound better through my 200/202 front end, would like to use it same way as I use the Yamaha at the moment with the control via the Yamaha etc don't want to go OTT as on a budget.

My God are DSP800's really thirteen years old!?
Do you use front centre and rears through the unit and feed the front left and right through your two channel naim gear?
I went blue ray and still get a very credible result through my 800, although I am also interested in what would be an obvious improvement without busting the bank.

Mike I had exactly your set up. The 202 has unity gain, check your manual for enabling it.
The e800 has front outputs on the back, simply hook this up to the AV input on you 202 and bobs your unkle 202/200 takes on front duties.
A great set up IMO.
As for blueray, there are some hi def surround formats now but very few, the e800 is still relevant with DTS and dolby. Have fun.

Garyi - totally agree - the 800 still sounds great
on DTS and DD when left and right go through naim 2 channel

Simon I am surprised with your set up you don't have an AV2 slotted in there.

Looks like I'll be sticking with my Yamaha then, if it aint broke don't fix it!
Thanks for the advice. Cheers Mike
