Quicken

Anyone here still using Quicken (2004 version) for their home finances in the UK? A brilliant piece of software sadly discontinued a few years back in the UK but still working fine for me on XP.

My question is - does it work on Window 7 should I change my computer as some point as no doubt I will have to. Dreading the thought of no longer having access to all that history and having to find a replacement.

When I upgraded (new build really) to Vista I couldn't find my Quicken disks (I suspect it was a download but I couldn't find that either).

I asked a friend to bring back an American copy and I have been using that ever since (including on 7). The American version works exactly the same as the UK version - you can set it up to use Eueopean currencies (I use UK, Euro and Swiss Franc) so this may be an option for you.

Thanks for the reply. Can I ask if you were able to load your existing UK version data files into the US version?

Sadly no. I don't know if you do an export as a QIF file if it will then just import it into the new version.

Good question.

I still rely totally on old Quicken for my accounting. Works pefectly on XP on my laptop, and would prevent me moving to a Windows 7 platform if not compatable.

This suggests old files can be imported

This isn't an ad, so hopefully won't fall foul of our administrators.

Another option for you could be the XP mode in Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate. It basically runs a copy of XP in a Virtual Machine so you can run stuff that isn't 7 compatible.

That's if Q7 doesn't run without problems. It might be fine.

I have run Quicken under Vista but it doesn't like it and the oddities lead me to wonder if it is entirely to be trusted.
Under XP it is stable and, as many have noted, a very useful home finance tool.
The best (although involved) solution may be to run under XP emulation in Win7.

For the long-term future the latest versions may be worth buying but they will not import data from your existing files.

Below is the answer I received from Quicken - I quote it here as I do not believe it to be a particularly private communication. It may be of help to others and save Quicken multiple replies.

"Thank you for contacting Quicken Customer Care.

Adam, I completely understand your concern and would request you to go through the following points before deciding whether to opt for Quicken for US or not:

1) We can download transactions only from the US banks in Quicken for US. However, we can enter the transactions manually for International banks since the multi-currency feature is available in Quicken. To know more about the multi-currency feature, please visit.

2) Data can not be converted from an International version of Quicken to Quicken for US, due to a difference in the design of the programs. However, we can create a new data file in Quicken for US and track account under an International bank, manually.

3) We need to have a credit/debit card with a US billing address to place the order on the quicken.com website. Please visit the link mentioned below to know more about this:

I've recently upgraded my XP to Windows 7 and my Quicken 2000 runs just fine on it. It didn't need emulation mode - just run fine.

I'm on Quicken 2007 and the support is now being discontinued, just got an offer for Quicken 2010 at 50%off - guess I'll upgrade now before my automatic account updates stop.
