Advice on Interconnect cables please

Posted by: syd on 19 May 2003

Hi All,

Today I became a proud owner of a SH NAC 72 and boy is it a cracker. I was surprised at the improvement over my 32.5 especially PRaT. Theres more air around instruments etc. At the moment I'm using my RCA terminated Kimber cable interconnects into a RCA/din convertor as I had fitted RCAs to my 32.5 in place of the AUX BNCs. So i'd like advice on a cable to connect my Micromega stage 5 to din Ahxiliary socket. I'm thinking of spending roughly £100.00 (maybe more for the right cable)and was thinking of the chord range. Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.

Syd.....don`t forget that although yo will get a flavour of any cables you try,you need to allow several weeks from new for "burn-in"

I reckon that Chord Cobra 2 (c £70) is a pretty good reference point which is nicely balanced....it is available in any termination you want You may do better, but I`ve found that the more costly cables have a more "extreme" sound...good if happens to work in your system.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try and get in to Loud and Clear soon and have a good listen. In the meantime I've come across a cheap RCA/Din Cable I bought from David Laine on Ebay. Probably not as good as the the Kimber cable but it isn't compromised by an adapter so I'll try it. Incidentally I'm using RCA/Din cables on Tuner and Tape that I bought from HI FI Review about 14 years ago. Does anybody know if they were made by Chord Specially for HI FI Review. They are very well made and sound excellent. I may swap the tuner one around to the CD and have a good listen.

I know you don't agree but I certainly notice that my system sounds better after the burn in on cables and components. I'm sure its not just me getting used to the change as a friend noticed it too. And he has'nt been listening and getting acclimatised to it day in and day out. This was when I was burning in my NACA5. He heard it after a couple of days and noticed the system was exagerating the treble and had a real edgy sound. He heard it again a few weeks later and asked what I'd bought now. Just an anecdote I know and not proof but for me burn in exists.

Hi syd.

I know it's pushing the boat out a bit at £200 the Chord Chorus is a must demo interconect.
I still use it between phono pre amp and CD player as they are not Naim. I have upgraded to a Nac 202/Nap 200 which have RCA inputs.
The control this cable gives is unreal matched with a very detailed top end.
