My (new) website. (with some dedication to Naim!)

Posted by: Alco on 04 January 2003

Hi guys,

Recently I found out how this Frontpage thing on my PC works.(finally!)
So, about 2,5 weeks ago I started to build my own website, 'about my music and HiFi'
Even 100% round-earth people will probably notice within a few second that I'm a bit of a Naimoholic.
You can check out my HiFi-history and current system, and there are several music samples on the 'my music' page.(blues,Americana, and pop)
It's not completely finished yet. One of the main pages on the website (my system) is still under contruction. (for lack of good pics and because I'm not really satisfied with my system (read:speakers) as it is right now.)

I tried my best to translate most of the pages in English, so that most people can read it.
(One problem for me writing in English is, I never know when to use the word 'then' or 'than')
O well, the site will open in Dutch, but you can choose an English version in the left menu-bar.

I would appreciate your response, tips,likes/dislikes,or other useful comments regarding my website.
(Do you feel someting is missing, incorrect, incomplete, etc or is it fine as it is at the moment.)

Here's the adres:www.aboutmymusic.tk

Add Ramblin' Jack Elliott and Jimmie Dale Gilmore to your "Americana" list. big grin

Cheers

Keith.

Thanx for the recommendations Keith,

...I've listened to some sound-samples on the internet, but to be honest they're not my cup o' tea.
(already knew, and didn't like the voice of Jimmie Dale Gilmore)
I wanted to ad Matrca Berg to the Americana list, but couldn't find any sound-samples from here.

Alco

Nice site Alco!

Add these blues players to your list if you haven’t already:

Albert King
Albert Collins
Otis Rush
Otis Grand
Joe Louis Walker
Gary Moore
Larry McCray
Robben Ford.

Gary Moore’s latest blues-only album is ‘Back to the Blues’, it’s never far from my CD player at the minute. Likewise with Robben Ford’s ‘Blue Moon’, another masterpiece from the nimble fingered blues genious.

Mr TibbsListen to some Robben Ford

Thanx for your tips and compliment, Mr Tibbs

To he honest though, I'm not really into Robben Ford's kinda blues. (although I love some of his songs, like 'mystic miles')
I feel his 'blues' is a bit too modern, polished, fusion-like. I've seen him last year at a blues festival in my area. After about 15 mintues I walked away...
I'm sure there are many more great blues artist (or Americana) but I meant to place just my personal favorites at the moment.

Hi Alco,

"then" is usually an adverb that refers to time ("First I kissed her, then I started unbuttoning her blouse."), whereas "than" is a preposition or a conjunction used in comparisons ("Her buttons were much bigger than my wife's buttons.").

Haha, big grin Thanx a lot Thomas!
You couldn't have made it any more clear to me!
Man, I wish my English lessons at school during the early 80's were this funny razz cool

"Then my wife rushed in. She's much bigger than I am."

Nice website, Alco. So the blues is still thriving in Drente...

Did it take a lot of work?

Thanx Herm!,
Yep, the blues is still alive and kicking in Drenthe! On the last weekend of this month we have our yearly 'bluesnight' in Assen. It's great!
Many bluesbands (mainly American and Dutch) perform in all pubs and on Sunday there's the so-called afterblues. (the icing on the cake)

It did take quite a lot of work and time to build the website. But now that I know how it works, it's fun to do and changes/corrections are made in a few seconds/minutes.

Hello Alco, great site. Noticed the reference to the blues harps, my favourite harpist was a Mr Paul Butterfield.Whom I emulated. Brilliant Chicago blues band.

Thanx Raymond!
I've got about 6 or 7 bluesharps laying around. Sometimes I play a bit when I'm in a bluesy mood.
I have heard about the name Paul Butterfield, but never heard his music.
Some favorites to me are Lester Butler, Kim Wilson, Paul Lamb and a Dutch guy named Kim Snelten.

I must confess I haven't listened to blues that much lately. (more things like Alison Krauss, Fred Eaglesmith, and that kinda stuff)

btw, with a little luck I can take over a decent digicam from a friend in a while. This way I can make some better pics of my system.
(that is... when I find some new suitable speakers first!)

Hi Alco,

I have just replaced my Oehlbach cable with some A5. The ProAcs sound now again as good as in my first room. You could come over and have a listen once, you know you love the looks, not only of the speakers, but also of the stands, and you haven't heard them on Naim...

Thanks for the kind invitation Bas.
Indeed I like the little Tablette's and the stands are the same as I had before I bought the Kan stands.
Only thing though is, I could listen to your Proac's in your house, with your source, cable and stuff, but that doesn't give me an impression about how they'd sound in my room.

I listened to some Intro's at Art in Sound last year, on the end of my Nait-2. I loved how they sounded in the listening room of the shop, but in my livingroom.... horrible! frown
(same goes for the SF Concertino's)

but thanks anyway.

Something VERY weird has happened today....

My website didn't appear on the screen, some parts of the day....
Instead though an empty white screen appeared, with the word 'Boe!' in the left topcorner!
Isn't that kinda spooky ?!
'Boe!' is like Boo in English (you know, when you wanna 'scare' someone, you'd say boo!)

At the moment it seams to work ok, but I hope it's not the terror acts of some hacker eek frown

well, let's hope it was only temporary... roll eyes

Obviously the entire world is checking out your website now; you advertized it yourself! That's why it's jammed!

And that's only stage one.

Pretty soon all kinds of groupies and tourists with videocams will be visiting your favorite blues cafe, asking for one Alco. The guy with the blues harps (and the kannies).

You may want to think of moving to the big city, man.

Herman

haha, yeah sure, Herm! wink

Checked my site just a minute ago. ..again, a bit white screen only filled with 'BOE!'
Damn, this is f..king irritating mad

But... I called a friend who know's more about computers than me, and he knew some other sites ending with .tk and we found out they also didn't work and had the same 'Boe!' screen.

So Herman, I guess it's not a personal attack from one of those new groupies big grin razz cool

Thanx a lot Quincy!

I saw that within 1 week people from 24 different countries checked my site. nice!
This morning I checked it at my work, but it was still down, showing nothing else but an empty white screen saying 'Boe!' ...the last couple of hours it seems to be working fine again.
I hope to complete the 'my system' page with some more/better pics of my system in the room.(asap)
(first I've to find me some new speakers!)

Alco - nice site. I especially like the tribute to SRV.

However, I think your treatment of basic blues styles may be a little oversimplified - two important styles are omitted, namely Piedmont Blues and Jump Blues.

Piedmont Blues, with such artists as Rev. Gary Davis, Sonny Terry, Brownie McGhee, Blind Boy Fuller, Blind Blake, and Barbecue Bob is particularly important.

Jump blues artists include Ruth Brown, Tiny Grimes, Johnny Otis, Jimmy Witherspoon, and Big Joe Turner.

Hi Y'all,

I just finished updating my website, with a link in the left-menu bar to a 'my dedication to Naim' page. Also I placed the links to other Naim related (home)pages on this page. (instead of placing 'em all in 'HiFi links'.
Feel free to give some comments, suggestions, tips,or say so if something is missing, incomplete, wrong or whatever Smile
(I also placed a few (poor b/w) system-pics from systems I owned some years ago, before I heard about Naim.)

that's all for now,

Greetings from a chilly but sunny Holland,

Alco,
your site seems quite a bit faster than on my last visit.
You are going in the right direction, just keep going.
