Glastonbury

What a sad spectacle. Mrs JWM nodded off nine times during this evening's coverage. In the end we resorted to:
(If your microscope's not working, that's Glastonbury Live '97: Mud for It).

I'm going to see Elbow at the Cornex. Yesterday there were no tickets for seats left, only standing, so it may be worth hurrying up a bit if you do want to go.
Thanks for tip off, Matt. Fortunately I booked up (two seats upstairs Row OO!!) immediately after I posted. We are at the stage in life where the option of the 'comfy chair' at gigs is becoming increasingly attractive...
Good wishes,
James

I think it's healthy that you lot didn't like it. It is supposed to be for kids, not middle aged middle class parents.
If Jay-Z was crap to you, then good. It isn't for you, it's for the kids. We had our time, now let the kids have theirs - without the parents tagging along.

Hmmm good point, but when do us boring old middle-aged, middle-class lot get our festival - I suppose it's Cambridge, but then it always was.
I agree Jay-Z was rubbish, but don't even some kids like good solid music anymore?
And if it was just for kids then why invite Leonard Cohen - a man who makes some of the most thought provoking, yet enjoyable music around and is even older than me.
Now where's my walking stick gone.
You're probably right - I wouldn't have wanted my parents to like all my music when I was young - it was turn that noise down.

Glastonbury needs something like Muse to wake up the proceedings.

Hi Bob - just heard that, very disappointing. Oh well, the Verve were quite good.

Awwww - well, you should have paid your £165, stayed in a tent (including getting soaked on the Thursday) and eaten overpiced festival food then, shouldn't you? Then maybe you'd have seen him (he was great, by the way).
Personally I don't see why Glasto (and others) have ANY TV coverage. The Beeb ruffled some bands' feathers this year, that's for sure.
As for Glasto not allowing tribute bands, I suspect BigH47 was hinting that Oasis are a poor man's Beatles. I agree. And if they bring the damn chav element like in 2005 they can stay away thanks.
This year was as good as 2003; 2007 had a bad vibe and 2005 had far too many stella-drinking lowlife runts.

oasis are one of the best bands to come along for many years, chav or not.

Munch,
Was there any coverage?

I doubt I'd go to Glasto - I'm getting on a bit for that.
If there was no coverage then that would not worry me. I prefer studio recordings to live stuff for the most part. However, occasionally I see a band on the TV that I would not have known about and the result is I buy their records (e.g. Bellowhead and Show of Hands). However, if I didn't see them and buy a record or two, I don't supposed it would matter much.
Would have liked to have seen Len though, but not for £165.

Yes, you're right Ewan, but I'm old and would mostly prefer to stay at home with my slippers and rose coloured spectacles listening to those great bands from yesteryear,
Thanks for the links though - ATB Rotf

John Mayar sounded really impressive and superb guitar. Will check him out this week. The track "Gravity" sounded really good.

BBC have not got the Jon Mayer set to view.

Wasn't at Glastonbury - if the words en-suite don't feature I am in the wrong place! However, I did see John Mayer in Hyde Park on Saturday and he was bloody good. He is the real deal. One of the best live musical moments I have had, ever, was the Eric Clapton encore, when Eric, Doyle BramhallII,Robert Randolph and Mayer played an extended version of "Crossroads". The quality of soloing was incredible. Eric took the last solo and, perhaps inspired by the others, played as well as I have ever heard him.

Indeed John! Just the thing for an idle 57 year old who likes his creature comforts!

I've got Mrs. 555 one of these for her 40th birthday pressie, & I will share it with her,
er, well at least I didn't get her a food processor (or LP12!).
Should be good for this 42 year old festival visitor seeking a decent nights sleep too.
I hope the weather's going to be OK.
