basic question about file saving on NAS

running uniti from a WD mybookworld NAS. I rip with dppoweramp. It saves fine, plays great BUT how should I organise the saved albums so the uniti can pick them out better. At the moment they're only saved by name - how can I categorise them by genre, other albums by same artist ? thanks

Hi Carter. In general this comes down down to meta data or 'tags'
I don't know dppoweramp but understand its quite powerful so I guess ensure its set to tag everything properly.
After that it comes down to how the music is being 'served'
Presumably the NAS has some sort of built in UPNP server?
I have TWONKY on my NAS which is the UPNP server and it dishes out a few options, i.e by artist by album by genra etc. But of course this is dependent on the quaitty of your Tags.

I don't knnow the Uniti intimately, but if it's playing from a uPnP server, I guess its organisaton depends on what the server offers it.
I'm using Twonky too, and even in its basic form, it will sort by artist, album, genre, etc. You can also get hold of customised trees which go a lot further
Which server have you got running on your NAS?

thanks for that.
the metadata all looks good.
i dont think i have any other software on my nas and the uniti is just reading the folders.from your suggestions I guess twonky is the way to go - is this saved on the nas and organises the music files to display to the uniti ?

It must have some form of UPNP unless you are directly attaching it.
NAS stands for Network Attached Storage. So I am guessing you have an ethernet lead plugged into it.
Have no experience of WD but I am willing to bet it has a configuration page accessible either by a small programme or if you have fixed the IP from your browser. once in you will not doubt find some sort of 'media portal' which is dishing out music via UPNP and who knows some settings.

The Uniti and UnitiQute are not able to simply browse network shares - you must have a UPnP server *SOMEWHERE* on your network that the Uniti / UnitiQute is connecting to unless you are plugging the MyBookWorld directly in to the Uniti via USB - the functionality of the UPnP server is a major factor in determining what kind of information (and playable files) you see on the Uniti/UnitiQute itself.
Cheers
Phil
