Great Al***, Dreadful Al*** Cover?

Posted by: SteveGa on 20 September 2006

Peter (Northpole) posted Van Morrision's No Guru, No Method, No Teacher using (almost)this description. It set me thinking about how often I have been seduced by a cover only to find the album to be crap. Anyway can you think of great albums with rubbish covers? To kick things off:

Van Morrison (again) Enlightenment

Sometimes I think the better the music the more ordinary the cover. Look at all the Motown best of's, just plain backround with some large lettering. Of course the vinly re-issue labels always go for the artists most stunning album jacket as opposed to their best records......Regards... BB ...P.S. I actually thought that was one of Elton's better jacket covers.

NOt sure whether they are great records but man check the jackets on these babies.

Cheese here

Well I guess it's informative - great music though from these Danish prog rockers

Some canny singles, particularly Johnny and Mary, tho sadly sounds dated. Jacket looks very dated. RIP.

Great album - but what were they thinking with the cover? There again as BB says Elton has had some stinkers!

Not over keen on this either:

Diccus is also right the 50's and 60's are the place to go. Andy Williams and Perry Como Smile

if you are going there, I still adore this album inspite its crap cover.

And this got to be the all-time great album with nothing on the cover.

I mean they couldn't even be arsed Photoshopping the original text on the warning sign out. Just plonked the bands name over the top.

One of the best albums ever. Remember when it came out? I was absolutely shocked at its originality. Good work lads and lasses!

Some bands should avoid being on their album covers.

Hi Steve,
thanks for posting the Heatwave Sleeve, it certainly made me laugh out loud, the bloke on the bottom right couldn't be any more tense and out of place.

Will.

Steve, loving the Heatwave sleeve. It really should be in the Museum of Bad Album Covers (google it if you don't believe there is such a thing!)

My favourite member is the guy in the middle of the front row who looks like a bewildered car mechanic!

Which track is your favourite out of Snap, Who Dat?, and Stikki Fingers?!

Who Dat? Seems to sum up the cover as well!

.....Remember Alice Cooper's Schools Out album?
..It folded out into a school desk complete with a pair of white panties stretched over the LP inside....

...don't ask!

.....Which reminds me to start another thread sometime ....wasn't Alice Cooper's (the band)output very underrated .....?

Steve

Heatwave had actually just dressed for a charity Parachute jump. Most of the guys are cool as the've done it many times before. The quick Fit Fitter (middle front) has tampered with the chute of the Front right guy who seems to be aware there is a rabbit off and is bricking himself. Many of the guys are sharing a joke that whilst the Jackson 5 wore cool jump suits too, they were too wus to try freefall. Little were they to know how Michaels career went in later years.

The guy at the back with the Frank Zappa facial hair seems have lost a golf ball down his Kecks and the guy to his right is having a hard time too.

Hang on a minute, have I been unfair in my comments about Van Morrison's album covers? Some of the above suggest this is the case. What do you say Van?
