PLEASE HELP!

I am desperate for some new music in my life but the problem is that I cant just buy a whole bunch of albums and hope for the best, I have a limited amount of pocket money this month!! Its a case of purchasing only 1-3 quality albums, the level of greatness Im looking for should be on a par with the likes of:

James taylor hourglass october road
Cassadra wilson belly of the sun
Nora jones come away with me
Fourplay heartfelt
The be good tanyas blue horse

Im sure you get the idea!

Thanks in advance Smile

Matt :

Just in case by some strange twist of fate you don't already have these :

1) Indigo girls - "Become you". If you like "Hourglass" (so I am assuming that you have "October road" which is IMO even better) you can't not like this.

2) Gillian Welsh - "Soul journey". Simply sublime.

3) Shawn Colvin - "Whole new you". Essential.

My suggestion for something more or less along those lines but that you've quite possibly not come across is Me'shell Ndegeocello's "Bitter".

Based on your selections

Calexico - Feast of Wire,
Superb, should be in everyones collection

Willard Grant Conspiracy - Regard the End
Excellent, Nick Cave meets alt country

Grand Drive - See the Morning In, True Love and High Adventure
Both excellent, and available cheap in various sales if you look around enough.

I heartily agree with Minky on Shawn Colvin's Whole New You except that I would also add her equally essential A Few Small Repairs and Steady On.

And if you dig Shawn you will most likely also dig Jonatha Brooke/The Story, especially The Angel In the House, Plumb and Ten Cent Wings.

One more strong recommendation for anyone into the James/Shawn vibe: Anders Widmark featuring Sara Issakson.

Thankyou all contributors for your suggestions, be asured I will be taking prompt action in the listening department Smile

Digresting a little.... I have made futile attempts to reply earlier but alas and fustration, my home computer has been testing my patience Mad I have come to the conclusion that it is a lump of. Hence the delay and consequent use of said reliable computer at work!

Since posting I have actually listened to three albums and uncharactoristically (is that spelt right? man that looks tooooo long!) bought one. Those listened on the kit are; Gillian welch's revival and hell among the, not for me although I did enjoy a couple of her songs, it was just too stark with little to keep me interested...sorry folks! I did however, enjoy Jesse harris the secret sun enough to purchase, my only citisism is that whilst vitually all songs are great I cant help feeling that they are a little too short some only 2.15 mins, I mean just when you are into it and wanting more ...well..... its over Confused. Still, I think its worth keeping, natural dynamics and a very earthy sound mmmm mmmm i likey like Smile
