A fabulous album! Vintage group with the great Barney Kessel on guitar. Remastered, too, with extra bits.

OP is a fabulously famous jazz icon, dare I say, on the level of Duke Ellington or Miles. BUT he is one jazz musician I have great difficulty warming to. He was a wonderful accompanist (to singers like Billie and Ella) but his solo and trio efforts leave me cold. Some of his later works sound almost like cocktail piano and a bit gimmicky.

Give me Erroll Garner, Hank Jones or Monk anytime. But then I like Keith Jarrett and John Zorn, so what do I know??? wink

Oscar is stonking. No question.

Surely Night Train is the one for all seasons. We get requests... Thigpen and Brown Trio stuff is all good. The verve ...meets Louis Armstrong is preety good for different reasons. You'd just assume it wouldn't work very well - but it does.

We've talked about this a few times before - and I've got a few tips of Ken before as well!

Anyone want more data - do a search on Oscar.
