I think that Queen are the perfect example that when a group work together they become brilliant but as solo artist they are not that good.
Taylor, May and Deacon formed a really brilliant musical unit and you only realise how good Freddie Mercury was you hear someone else trying to sing his songs. His vocal range was good and his timing perfect.
Inuendo is a brilliant CD and it is one that I never tire of playing over and over. The voice of Freddie and the instrumentals just blend together and they communicate music like few other pop groups.
Freddies death was a disaster and had he remained alive, I am sure his music would have swung in the direction of light opera. It was obvious that he was begining to tire of "plastic pop".
Without Freddie the others are nothing and John Deacon is the one I admire the most for quitting whilst ahead of the game.
Regards
Mick

Queen were so unique and sucessful at what they did that its hard to imagine any of the members being sucessful in their solo careers.
Inuendo has to be one of the best video's queen released and is a regular on my video player. It would be nice to see some of the later video's released on DVD so I can play them on my new Naim DVD when its finally released.

Definitely one of the greatest bands ever, and that is despite Freddie was a scereaming bender
I do have their complete back catalogue, along with several other bands.
Especially if you listen to their non-"Greatest Hiots" tracks, you will see the amazing synergy the group have.

Yeah, that's it! Bohemian Rhapsody is to me the esence of Queen. It's so damned impressive, as long as you don't actually listen to it, it's fine if you hear it, but listen to it ... it's preposterous.

Indeed. And it's so bloody long too.
I did like "I want to break free" by Freddie all on his own, especially because as a kid it was amusing watching the video of him in drag chasing a vacuum cleaner about.
I don't see the need to get homophobic about them though, they were just crap for the most part and their possible sexual orientation is irrelevant.

Steve.
