Buying Ladders

Posted by: Paul Hutchings on 24 September 2005

I need a set of ladders. Nothing special, needed for the usual "outside of the house" stuff on a 2 story house.

Anything I should know or for that sort of purpose is a set of ladders a set of ladders?

Probably wont help you, but I just bought one of those four section folding ladders that can be rigged straight, as a step ladder and as a 'bench.' It is excellent. Great for indoors doing wallpapering and the usual indoory stuff. Probably not long enough for all needs of a two story house; we have a bungalow. But you should be able to get up high enough to clean / paint 2nd story windows.

Worth thinking about at any rate.

I think there are 3 or 4 steps you need to take.

Bought 2-piece aluminium set once and within year sold them/bought 3-piece set which really could extend safely past e.g. gutters. Easier to store/move etc. Some good prices if you look around.

Most important thing is to use them very safely as recommended (angles etc) and not to stay 'up top' for 5 hours like I once did.

If you aren't confident in safe-use, etc., very useful to have responsible adult assisting at base of ladders.

VERY useful if you get/make roller-thing to move ladders up wall/to keep top away from gutters.
