stageline, microgroove, black cube,...?

As an upgrade for my MF XLPs I'm looking for a new phono pre-amp. Candidates are Naim stageline, microgroove, Lehman Black cube SE. Can anyone recommend one of these items or are there better ones (in this price range) on the market?

Given the rest of your system I would upgrade the deck instead. Take your pick from the following upgrade suggestions:

1. P3 motor upgrade - if you have the old motor assembly definitely do this before anything unless you're changing decks. £85 or so.

2. Dynavector 10x5 - significant improvement all-round over the 1022. Around £275.

3. Incognito rewire for the tonearm - signficant improvements in resolution, definition, pace, attack, transparency - no downsides as far as I can tell. Around £130. Both Moth and Michell do this job.

4. Michell or Origin Live arm extras such as underslung counterweight. Further improvements. Price varies depending on what you're doing.

5. New deck. Rega P25 £625 or so. Michell tecnodec £600 or so. factor that you'll get back £100 - £125 for your P3 depending on condition. Or an even better deck, but then the money gets big very quickly.

You'll note that for the price of a new phono stage you can make significant improvements further up the chain at the deck. I'd start there given that the MF phono stage is not going to be that bad and almost certainly isn't being taxed by the 1022.

Regards,
Frank.

Yeah Theo or anybody at Naim/Infopop just how did you get to be a "somebody" when the rest of us are either "Junior Member" or "Member". I've tried to change mine in preferences or profile but to no avail. Please Explain.

Thanks for the advice. It seems that although a stageline, cube or groove would improve the sound, a better deck is the way to go.
A Quick scan of the market learned that there are even more options. LP12, P25, Nottingham analogue, gyrodec and several German contenders Transrotor leonardo. The Lp12 seems popular on this forum. Is this the best choice?

I'm "somebody" because I own a Naim and am no longer a "nobody"

Frank, anyone,

Have you heard the new Roksan deck which is getting such good reviews?
