Rest of Naca 5
Posted by: Lightkeeper on 13 November 2002
Hi !
Many of us have more Naca 5 meters than we actually need, including me. I have 2X5m, but actually need 2X2m. What is best to do with the rest? Now I have a few circles, but I was heard that is good to make an 8 like rounds.
Any advice here,
thanks,
Ozren

Leave it trailing dangerously across the floor like the rest of us.
Before people photo their rigs and post the pictures they always tidy up.
In reality its a sty. Everything works better when not constricted

I had thesame problem, the shop were generous with their meters and I ended up with some slack.
To start with I had the excess coiled under my stand (under the 160!). The improvment on adding A5 was substantial over the QED stuff I had been using, so I left it like that for a while.
Then somone on the forum saw a photo of my system and went mad, telling me I could not do that as it would introduce so much rf interefernace, both form the 160 and because it was in a coil.
The advice I was given, and have since adopted was to fold the cable, like a squashed Z. The cable is folded twice with each fold about a 1.5m long, neatly laying aginst the wall behind the sofa.
The improvment had by removing the coil was quite amazing. Not Hicap amazing, but amazing none the less give that is is free.
I imagine an ideal scenario would be to cut it down in lenght, but I could not bring myself to cut up, the second most expensive cable I have ever bought. Anyway one day I might move and need the full lenghts.
sorry for going on and on but it should anwer your question.

Your amp would prefer you to keep at least 3.5m each side.

Steve.
It's just a pleasure to hear music as it was intended to be heard.

Thanks to all and Steven to.
But Steven, I don't want to CUT my NACA5, I just want to know what shape is best to make of meters which are actually not needed in term of length. I know that few meters more is good to have because of electrical match with amplifier.
