Do you think that Keano will save them next year? Or are they also for the slippery slope to Div 1

Diccus,
I've never been able to definitively work out, are you from Newcastle or Sunderland? Given your reaction to them winning the championship I reckon Sunderland.
I only ask as I used to live there and still have many friends up there, and really should pay a visit.
All the best
Ryan

Congratulations to Sunderland.
What Keano has done this season must rank amongst the greatest achievements in a managerial debut season, taking a team that was bottom - having lost their first four games - to being champions in eight months. Incredible.
If any one can keep them up, he can.

And don't forget what Paul Ince has done in his first managerial position with Macclesfield, cosidering their plight when he first went there. They really did look set for the drop back out of the Football League.

I'm from Durham and support Sunderland though Newcastle is by far the finer City

It's a completely different proposition for next season. Keane has been brought in with the promise of a good budget to turn Sunderland into the Club they have long promised to be. Since the Chairman Bob Murray went and the Irish consortium took over (inc Niall Quinn) there has been a clearly more professional, strategic organisation behind the team. Sunderland should be at the level of Newcastle in regards attracting quality players (if not there performances

Keane is certainly the Real deal.............. and he has backing.

Diccus,
For the red & white stripes it does not get any better than the Toon in complete disarray and your boys up as champions.
Fortunately I was away walking in the Peak District with a three other families over the weekend and so missed our final home game of the season. It was difficult to even give my season tickets away, such is the apathy that currently engulfs the Gasllowgate faithful.
Roeder at least had the decency to walk. An honest guy who at the end of the day was simply not up to the poisoned chalice that is the manager's role at Newcastle. I remember him fondly from his days as our classy central defender and captain who did the Ali shuffle occasionally.
The really depressing thing is the number of people who have just given up on premiership football, not just Newcastle fans, but any team outside the anointed ones. Suddenly there seems to be many more attractive options than spending your cash watching your team providing the fodder for those for whom a treble or double is simply not enough. Any trophy would send us into a frenzy of excitement for months, as well as make millionaires of any licencee around the town.
This weekendend I was away with a Spurs, a Blackburn and Manure fan. The only one who was enjoying his football was the one that was getting hundreds of texts about the Chelsea/Arsenal game, while they wrapped up yet another trophy. Fat Freddie is going to get a rude awakening when the season ticket renewals do not come flooding as usual.
Sadly I am obviously not clever enough to walk away from the team that I have supported for so long. My kids by contrast keep saying "do we have to go" when I drag them along.
The good news is that my dissertaion has now been handed in, only the final exams to go.
I would rather cut my testicles off than have Big Sam (Switch to high pitched voice seems unfortunately inevitable).
Enjoy your celebrations and our misery!
Regards
Nic

Diccus,
This is another suggestion that has been floating around for a while. Not for me, no passion, and another manager who does not seem to know who to substitute or when.
What we need is someone with a long beard and a wand!

Diccus,
He is the one that remembers sitting in the Gallowgate stand as a young man! Strange I remember it being a standing area with concrete crash barriers and a river of pee cascading down the terrace at half time. No one without wellies would dare to use the designated toilet!
Thanks for the support and mickey taking Gentlemen, Toon fans have developed thick skins over the years, out of necessity.
Keeping on keeping the faith.

Diccus,
As far as I aware Shearer is still doing his badges, but he is far to smart a cookie to take over while we are in our current state anyway. Neither am I sure that he would like to have his god like status tarnished by the possiblity of failing at Newcastle.
Steve Coppell, as in his playing days, plays some nice attractive football I would not mind him. The problem is that while Fat Freddie is still in charge, the Manager is unlikely to be given sole control over football matters.

Nic - I still reckon our ex-manager GB could do wonders for you.

ROFT,
You could well be right, some things he has done have been very impressive, others suggest he has the same human frailties that afflict most of us. Unfortunately you tend to get pilloried in a high profile role.
I think the interference behind the scenes he experienced at Derby would be little better with FF at SJP.
The other concern we have today is hanging on to Michael Owen, having paid his wages for two years and seen very little of him through injury. Mind you the comments from FF will not have helped either. Perhaps Blair could do peace keeping job at SJP!
