Hello Everbody,
About to have my first Naim System delivered, only could aford the entry level system,(greater foces than me has some control over the purse strings), a CD5i CD player and a Nait 5i Intergrated Amp. I can't help thinking I should have started better, any one any thoughts, also could anyone reccomend any CD's that would bring out the best on the system I have ordered?. My music tastes are , Classical,R&B/Soul & some Jazz. Very many thanks.
Kind regards,

Since you live in N Yorks you should go into Cassady's in York. They'll help you out

Tony
Welcome to the forum.
CD5i and Nait5i are a great place to start and will give you years of fun.
I am surprised noone has mentioned trying a few Naim CDs - you should have had a sampler with your CD5i.
The other thing I have found fun is trying stuff outside of what I would have bought anyway that is resommended here (and so far I have only bought 1 cd I can't listen to).
Anyway enjoy the music.
cheers

Since you are looking for CDs that will flatter your system, I suggest you start with purchasing all the Naim Samplers (1-5) They are very inexpensive, sound wonderful and cover a wide range of musical styles. That should keep you busy for a while.
Some of my personal favorites for musical merit and sonics are:
Lambchop - Is a woman
James Taylor - Hourglass
Cowboy Junkies - 21st Century Blues or Trinity Sessions
Many others. Have fun.

Lovely system! All you need really (but for a pair of loudspeakers). Stick to this for the next five years at least and don't fall into this upgrade trap. Any old or new CD will do. Go to shop and buy and/or order via internet. I'm almost jealous, because you make it look like you own little or no music yet. Great chance to train your musical tastebuds.
Kind regards,
Willem

my suggestion: Erik Truffaz, "bending new corners", it sounds absolutely terrific. close your eyes and you'll bet the guys are right here in your living room.

Apparently the new Red Hot Chilli Peppers album has been garnering positive reviews on this forum for both quality of listening and wonderful production.

Nothing wrong with that lot at all: it's still miles better than 99.9%+ of all domestic sound systems. My own system is the bottom of range equivalent from a decade ago: nait3, cd3, nat03, intro speakers. Aside from planning to send the nait back for a tenth anniversary re-cap next year I've no plans to change it and I've been completely satisfied, even though I know there's much better higher up the range. I could've bought it too, and not gone on such nice holidays or have such a nice selection of bikes...

Play your existing favourites: if it is good music it will sound good. I'll second the suggestion of the naim samplers as you can do some exploring of gloriously well recorded music for not much money. My fave naim releases are Dreamhouse, Gathering Light and the first Union CD. You might have bought naim for pace and rhythm, but try any of those for proof that it does reflective and space very well too!
Enjoy that system rather than worry about upgrading it,
Pete.
