There is some hope for the quality of British TV then... I was beginning to think that the decline into endless realty TV cr^p was inevitable...

But ITV have axed the Southbank show as well!!!

You only need a blunt axe to cut through the MUSH.

Thank heavens that ridiculous talentless load of old crap is going! Now get rid of X factor pop idol, celebrity whatever whatever and other "reality" voting shows as well and we might get some decent viewing. The only reason it's on is because its cheap to make and they can raise the money via the viewer phone calls.

No doubt they will find something equally drab and purile to replace it.

Shame about the South Bank show as that was occasionally interesting.

Oh dear what a dreadful shame it was such a wonderful program.

....Which is unfortunately only part of the answer ....X Factor and Britain's Got Talent have massive viewing figures (especially in this multi-channel age) ITV's remit is to make shows with mass market appeal and whatever else may be said about X Factor it appeals to it's own demograph perfectly.

Shows that members of this forum may describe as "decent" will almost certainly often not even appear on the radar of the mass viewing public ...TV/Ch 4 will only stop producing these shows when the British public stop watching them (ie BB's figures have been dropping for years)

..In essence ....blame our fellow citizens for Big Brother or X Factor's success not the TV company's that produce them!

Jet,
Of course I agree with you but feed em crap and they will watch it.

Lowest denominator TV. I would not object to one sort of this show but once one is successful they roll out all the other copycat programmes. And they drag on to get the phone calls in. Look at the various voting fiascos.

Yeah I know I am a grumpy old fart these days but I love a good drama, or comedy or nature documentary, some TV music programmes BBC 4 sessions, Jools etc and the footie.

Just as well I have a decent Naim hifi for when the celebritydancepopshagging on ice comes on!

Fan... Bloody... Tastic BB Gone !!!!

Unfortunatly "VIEWING FIGURES ARE EVERYTHING" in modern TV terms so they will just replace it with some other crock of sh-t which I am sure will be just as devastingly insulting to the intelligence of any normal thinking person as BB was !!!!!!

Not to worry, I'm they'll be plenty of re-runs on one (or two) of the cable channels soon.

I'm certain that the only reason it has been axed is because the "great british viewing public" are fed up waiting for the live, no holds barred shagging that was always promised but never delivered. The viewing figures must have dropped and the sponsers will be looking elsewhere.

Probably the replacement program, whatever it is, will be even more dire.

Shucks - I think you're right but for a moment I thought the TV viewing masses had come to their senses.

Or as Michael Grade said when he was at the BBC.." Making POPULAR TV programmes is easy. All you have to do is show live sex & public executions"

The lowest common denominator indeed.
