Edinburgh Festival 2006

Well, for those who may be interested the Programme is out:

(can't seem to find a link to download the programme itself, but if anyone really wants I can e-mail them a copy).

The highlights would seem to be a Beethoven symphony cycle (under Mackerras Big Grin and the SCO, and the Philharmonia for the 9th) as well as a Bruckner cycle (under a range of conductors. Abbado is bringing the Mahler Chamber orchestra with the Magic Flute (fully staged), there's a concert performance of Wagner's Mastersingers, Rattle with the BPO doing Mahler 4. There's also some quite interesting looking drama. Anyway, suffice to say I know what I'm doing at the end of August.

Wow, looks great Tam, bet you'll have lots of fun. What better way to spend your money, except ona possible upgrade. I'd take live music any day.

I know, we're lucky to have such a fine festival - it's like being a child in a sweet shop (except more expensive!). Actually, I've been pretty restrained this year (well, if you count going to a concert every evening as being restrained) and am going to only two of the morning concerts - these are normally broadcast in the lunchtime slot on Radio 3.

Still, I prefer my money there than on some upgrades. Actually, I haven't felt the slightest urge to upgrade anything almost a year now (do I lose my rights to post? Winker).
