Vinyl Sales

Posted by: Chris L on 18 June 2001

I just wondered where the vinylphiles here get their new LP's? And if anyone had recommendations of places to get new vinyl on the net or by mail order (I know about Vivante, but anywhere else)?

Cheers

Over the pond there are several dealers like Vinyl Vendors that sell new LP's. The best place to get them though is at Yard/Tag/Garage sales.
Most people consider LP's pretty much useless anymore so you can pick up large quantities of records for next to nothing. 25 cents to 50 cents(US) is the typical price for LP's at yard sales. Rarely are they more than $1 and frequently they go for 10 cents. More often than not you can usually find several records that are practically new. Most classical stuff you find at these sales is un-used as well. Makes for an enjoyable morning of shopping.

Try www.diversevinyl.com - they are not cheap, but carry a pretty good selection over many genres.

For indie vinyl I really like www.rocketgirl.co.uk - if you like the stuff they stock (which I obviously do) they have lots of very low run stuff which tends to become incredibly hard to find later. Their prices are exceptionally fair.

amazon.co.uks vinyl section is pretty good.
for dance stuff I usually go to www.juno.co.uk. Or for the harder to get stuff on s/h, Hard To Find Records - www.htfr.com. Another great one is Beanos, they are not on the web but do take phone orders - (020) 86801202. Other than that I go down to HMV in manchester or the local independent stores.
