I must confess that I have no idea what you are on about.
I'll asumme I am missing something but:
There is no ethernet connection on the DVD5 or the AV2
I think they might have something that looks like it but believe its for maintenance.
I am happy to be told other wise.
OSD is the video output of the DVD5 no?

I'd have to go and dig out the manual to check, but I think you are talking about the crossover CAT cable to connect the DVD5 and AV2 together. IIRC all this gives you is the AV2 information on screen. Hardly worth the effort IMO, and when I reasssembled my AV system for the first time, I didn't bother putting it back in.

Oh fair enough there is something there then.
Sounds like he wants a patch cable? It could be configured especially for the task so would presumably need to speak to your dealer.

OK. I'll refine my original answer. Just checked the manual for DVD5/AV2. The info is on pages 11 and 12. It's an ordinary CAT5 cable (not crossover - sorry, got that bit wrong). If you really wanted to, you could use a CAT6 or better, but no point really! i.e. any CAT5 cable will do. It's not carrying audio signal, so don't waste your money on an expensive one.
As I said, all it really does is let you control AV2 functions using the OSD (on screen display) generated by the DVD5. Nice if you really want that, but I can (and do) live perfectly happily without it.
I would suggest you check with your dealer or Naim support (email them) that it is not a crossover cable. (wouldn't be the first time I was wrong!)

Jepp. Plain old cat5. No crossover. Cheapo 1 quid cable.
I find it really helpfull because it makes setting everything up properly much easier. I quite like doing it via a proper OSD on my plasma.
Sure, you can do without it, but it's there, so why not use it.
And they come in a nice green, so looks pretty neat, too
Oh, on top of the setup-routine, the DVD5 will switch the AV2 to the proper inputs if you use the cat5 connections.
Meaning, if you have an analogue and a digital connection and call them "CD" and "DVD", the DVD5 will recognize the format and switch the AV2 to the correct input.
Also quite nifty.
It's possible, but I am not sure, that sending rc-commands to the DVD5 will be forwarded to the AV2, but I am not sure because I never covered the AV2's ir-rx.
The displays are linked for sure. Maybe other features like volume are but as I said, I never tried it.
Mainly of interest if the AV2 is on a lower shelf with blocked view or in some kind of enclosure and the DVD5 is in the open.
