Signal leads

Am I right does the signal go from the pre in and out of the HI/super without any thing happening to the signal? Then on to amp. If this is so why don't the signal go straight to the amp, removing a connection and giving another marketing oportunity for a new SNAIC 6S or something ie a direct lead for signal and power lead for pre. Please excuse if this has been covered b4 or is completely stupid. I'm pretty good at it though.
