Some advice and opinions please. I have no reasonably local dealer and need to travel some distance for a decent dem so it will be nice to have some thoughts first.
Current= CDS/XPS/102/NAPSC/HiCap/140x2/IXO/Credo
Thoughts are about speakers-wanting something a little more dynamic and faster-to really let the CDX reveal its quality. I find the Credo bass a bit pretty slow and boxy and at higher volumes it gets pretty congested all round.
Options I can see are-to try to get SBLs in a nice finish before they disappear and either go back to passive with a 250 or active with SNAXO and keeping 140's, anyone ideas about these combos?
Alternatively wait for Allae to come out and again consider a 250 or an active set up-anybody know if they will be IXO compatible or would need SNAXO again.
I realise that few have heard the Allae yet.
Regards
Bruce

Dem a supercap vs a 250 in your system to see which makes the biggest difference.
If you want more pace and unboxyness, I would imagine that a 250 will drive them better. Forget the 2x140's option - the 250 is in a diferent league. Or maybe try s/h 135's.
Then try a CDS2 head unit if you have a CDX - once warmed up this is in a different league to CDX/XPS.
One of my dealers best sounding systems is a CDS2/XPS, 102/SCap/250, Credos and I have to say it sounds magnificent.

Dev

Thanks for the reply Matthew. I have not tried the York Sound Organisation as I live the other side of the county. Have they been impressive?
Dealers nearer to me keep closing down! (Otley, Preston) Bought my last lot of kit from Image Audio in Leeds but they seemed a bit short of demo stock.

Hi Bruce,
I recently upgraded my IXO in CDX/82/Super/IXO/2*140/Credo to SNAXO+HiCap, (cliché alert:) by far one of the most significant upgrades in my system (along with 3.5+Flat -> CDX). I suppose it depends on what you want, but I don’t believe it lags behind a single 250 as many would think (does cost a bit more, though).
The result is that instruments have shrunk to a realistic size and sound very lifelike compared to before, particularly piano and snare drums. One note bass – a thing of the past (even with the Credo); I now hear many previously unnoticed embellishments in bass lines, and notes stop much faster when the bass player mutes the string. On the whole this setup still lacks some authority and weightiness, but as far as I can tell, it’s fast.

I can vouch for Sound Org in York. They are a terrific shop, and the guys there are friendly and extremely helpful. Plus, the have good demo facilities. Hamish, the manager, is probably one of the nicest and most knowledgeable guys I've ever met.
