What is unity gain?

It's a way to by-pass the volume pot of a preamp to assure a gain of one (output=input).
This is specially useful for a home-theater processor. This way you can use your stereo system to play the left and right front channels witout bothering of the volume level of your preamp.

Manu,
I presumed that unity gain is the same as volume control at max?
Even 12:00 would be hugely loud for me.
cheers, Martin

Not at max, 12:00 is approx unity gain... and yes, it is very loud.

I have been quoted £120 -£150. It depends on the spec of your 52 as there have been various small changes over the years.

It's not out of control though, since you can back off the volume at the audio source you have connected to the "unity gain" input.
However I have a question of my own. Does the signal get fully processed by the NAIM pre-amp circuit so you get the benefit of your higher quality NAIM kit?.
I think the answer is yes but can anybody confirm that?
