OK,

An English audiophile pressing of D*** S*** O* T** M*** (played once and forgotten) to the person who can correctly identify all the pieces of Naim gear shown below AND point out the most number of No-no's in my set-up. (don't bother with my profile, it's not at all current). (some guessing probably necessary).

Open to USA,Candadian and UK readers only (sorry, but postage can get out of hand).

Not too up on the kit these days after a long time away from the forum but here goes:

72 on top of a CDX (big no-no)on top of a home-made support (interpretation of no-no points will depend on your opinion of Vuk-like supports)?

with Hi-Cap on top of a (now this is a guess)250 (another no-no) all sitting on a Sound Org table (another no-no if you are from the non-ferrous brigade) and sited between a pair of SBLs (another no-no - kit should not be between speakers).

Seems to be connected with NACA5 with lots of coils in between. Difficult to see where the mains are so they must be right behind the kit which is another no-no.

Speakers appear to be place right in the corner but less than 6ft apart (double no-no).

Maybe I'm showing my ignorance here but I can't see any more.

Cheers

Tony

P.S. Just bought another copy of the prize for £5 and it didn't have any posters

My came with the poster. But it's been moved. I'll have to dig it up. Nice poster. Very nice poster.

Although the picture is deceptive, the speakers are not in the corners. Those "corner" are like 170 degrees (not 90 degrees). I'm not THAT crazy.

The grey looking twist pile carpet (gala perhaps?) thats a no no, its all wood effect nower days

Do I win a prize?

Posted on: 16 November 2001 by Tony Smith
As I remember - the first time I bought DSOTM there were two posters, both pyramid inspired. One was pinkish and the other blue.

Was I right about any of your kit and the set-up faux pas? Did I win the prize?

Cheers

All of what Tony said above (is that cheating?), plus where's yer foam? It should be back on the speakers and your mains leads appear to be running parallel to your left speakers A5. And is that a switch that I see on your mains block? Probably has a circuit breaker on it too, shame, shame. And when was the last time you vacuumed in there young man? Don't you realise that dust mites affect PR&T?

And Tony should lose as he has mistaken the green prism poster for blue. Must have been on something really good the first time he heard his original DSOTM. Get yer eyes checked man, blue/green is the first to go.

I don't know what yer all talkin' about, but the poster I remember had nothing to do with pyramids (not that I noticed, anyway).

BTW, I'll announce the winner as soon as somebody gets "all" the non-no's or until people who might want to post have had a chance, whichever comes first.

Damn, damn, damn

can't believe I missed the missing foam off the SBLs. Well done Craig (through grinding teeth ;-)). And I suppose I should doft my cap to you about the power cable passing past the speaker to our left (gnash, gnash). My work PC isn't the best at showing net pix to their best effect.

My biggest guesses were the 250 and Sound Org so if they are okay I will feel like that I have had a reasonable stab at the prize.

But one thing I do take issue with is my recollection of the blue DSOTM poster. I would have bet a rather large amount of money - say 5p -on it being blue with some pebble effect.

C'mon Judd put us out of our misery - have we missed anything?

Yours, losing my memory

The posters were laid out in six smaller pictures, 2x3, the name pink floyd was spread over it, I remember a cheesy gilmour with long hair looking stoned, I used to have them but trashed them.

Still have the black plastic bag for WYWH though.

Here's the poster that came with this DSOTM. I guess there is a pyramid in there somewhere.

No, No, No, some of you people must have been born yesterday. That poster is from a much later release as it has all of the cover art work from 'Meddle' all the way through to 'The Wall' rather beautifully...er...painted...on...er... Hold it! Lets have another look at that system picture of yours there Judd. Listen, just get yourself another two shelf Sound Org stand and place your 72 on top and you CDX on bottom. Plug it all into a Wiremold el strippo strip, sort out the wire routing, throw the foam back on and send me that bloody poster...er...record.

Well,

I think this has run its course. It's a tough call because Tony was the first, and he covered all of them but one (the speaker foam), but craig technically had the most (although he piggybacked on Tony). But, he did add the foam, the multistrip WITH circuit breaker). So . . .It's a tough call.

I'm going with Craig because the speaker foams were kinda glaring, and Tony should be ashamed of missing them big grin big grin big grin

Anyway, send me your address and I'll have the poster. . . er. . record out to you.

Judd, speak to me, am I really the winner? I can hardly breath as I have been on the run all day and now my time in the winners circle has finally come. I have at long last won something via an internet contest without someone trying to scam me out of some money or meddle with me inbox contents. What a refreshing change from the usual us and them experience.

I imagine that listening to Floyd again on the Naim kit will be like attending the great gig in the sky. I hope that I don't end up getting brain damage from too much exposure as it will no doubt eclipse any of the crap that they try and pass off as progressive rock these days.

As far as I am concerned the poster insert could be any colour you like. I wonder if the wife will mind if I get it laminated and stick it on the wall in the living room above the turntable?

Oh and thanks for making the right decesion in picking yours truly as winner in the first place. Tony really should have noticed the foam. Did you remove them for the pic or have they disintegrated?

Anyway, I think that I will have a cigar in your honour my friend.

Craig
PS. Can anyone spot all of the references to DSOTM track titles in the text above without looking them up? (Hint: all 10 tracks receive mention).

For your info only of course these are the original posters from and original record, can't believe I still have them.

It would appear we were all right.

Why not?

Is this really a problem - I have mains next to my kit (50cm away)

Craig

Just wanted to congratulate you on your prize - been away from the screen for a week soaking up the sun in Jamaica so I wasn't sulking.

Hope you enjoy it - your acceptance speech certainly showed some signs of pleasure.

Oh and thanks to Garyi for proving I haven't gone the same way as Sid, just yet.

And well done to Judd for setting up a non-scam internet competition - is it a first? Obviously my bribe for the judge wasn't big enough!

Cheers

Tony
