I picked up “Punk” at Fopp for 10 quid on Saturday (lots of brilliant pictures and some interesting quotes but not as good as “England’s Dreaming”) so its been:

New York Dolls - ST
Ramones - ST
The Only Ones - ST
Television – Marquee Moon
The Clash – ST (US version)
(All on vinyl)

Which of course is far too cool so it’ll have to be some Yes tonight to balance things up.

Well, I've been listening to my most recent purchases, but my male "domestic partner" neighbors have been listening to:

Ah-Ha- The "Take On Me" track, while singing along
Madonna- Album and tracks unknown

Luckily no show tunes or opera (yet).

Mad

Nude Ants - Keith Jarrett
How Sweet It Is - Joan Osborne
One Quiet Night - Pat Metheny
Personal Mountains - Keith Jarrett
Up For It - Keith Jarrett

Obviously I'm in a heavy Jarrett mode. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Tonight I have been mostly listening for the first time to these albums on trial from me local. Not sure which ones I will keep yet. Anyone have a more long-term view of these ?

Nico Case : Blacklisted. Great songs and production. Not sure about the voice.

Ian McCulloch : Slideling. Probably worth having for "high wires".

Blur : Think tank. Not what I was expecting, but bloody interesting. Fantastic production.

And some oldies but goodies :

Neil Halstead : Sleeping on roads. The guy from Mojave. Lovely, gentle music.

Jazzyfatnastees : Once and future. Great soul. They have a new one out but it isn't on local release. The downside of living on a deserted island.

Minky... Neko Case has had staying power in my collection, and after hearing on the radio this afternoon that she's coming to town, I hope to see the show. A good live performance usually influences the longevity/replay value of an album for me.

To Fred Simon---

NO, nothing wrong with that! It's perfectly normal. I've even thought about doing it myself!

(Or something like that. Can't remember Jerry and George's exact words.)

So far this evening:

Blondie: Eat to the Beat. (Part of a big collection I recently acquired. I couldn't get past side one.)

T. Rex: Electric Warrior. (From the same collection; I did listen to all of this, and quite happily)

Soundgarden: Ultramega (this album is ageing quickly; chunks of it now sound silly).

Richard Hell and the Voidoids: Destiny Street (not ageing at all).

And OTD, Minutemen: Double Nickels on the Dime. (New vinyl replaced my crappy old cassette. This album is terrific, but as I'm just discovering, each side has a little "bonus" at the end that's not on the cassette or, I'm quite certain, on seedy Eek.)

Apropos the above posts, the last few days have seen Neko Case, Blur, The Delgados, Neil Halstead, and even David Sylvian (Gone to Earth) on my player.

Cheers,
Eric

James Brown - “Live” at the Appollo (should have seen him go go go)
Roland Kirk – “We Free Kings”
Gong – “Live etc”
Various - “The Cutting Edge” Oyster Band, Mekons etc
Interpol – “Turn on the Bright Lights”. Still don’t get what all the hype is about this (Pitchfork gave it 9.5). Just some warmed over Joy Division and Smiths copies, I reckon NYC’s hook is nicked from Echo’s “Bring on the dancing horses”.

See you stated Gong Live. I have had a copy of Camembert Electrique for yonks, it's a good lp, but how does it compare with their other stuff, cause I would like to explore more.

I agree, his albums tended to be patchy affairs but "From Elvis In Memphis" is so complete, Iv'e got the vinyl too.

I’m no expert (calling Nick Lees..he’s your man), I just pick up anything that looks vaguely interesting. I’ve got Live etc, Flying Teapot and Floating Anarchy Live. Camembert Electrique is supposed to be one of their better efforts and Live etc has a number of tracks from it . I like the other two although they are very different, Floating Anarchy Live is quite punky, in a sort of stoned, hippy way, I understand that Gong did some shows with Crass and the Fall! Flying teapot is, I think, closer to Camembert, with its laid back jams and excellent lyrics “Pothead Pixies” etc.
