Menzies Campbell? How do you say it?

Posted by: Lee Brindley on 09 January 2006

So many variations being said?

Menzies - looks obvious doesnt it - aka John Menzies, well known newsagent once upon a time.

So what ive heard this weekend. Written as heard...

1. Menzeez - the obvious
2. Mingies - overtones of Ming the....
3. Meenz - beenz meenz...
4. Mean - Scottish origin?

All of these version were from the spoken media, so if they dont know, what chance do we have?

Any comments welcomed.

Ming. Or Mingis in full. It's a good old Scot name full of heritage and tradition.

Indeed. I'm bloody glad I'm not called Ming! Especially if one resides in Scotland...

On the news last night was an expert called Dr Minging. Unfortunate.

It's usually Mingis or Mingus depending on your accent. It's actually not very common and the only person I ever met with that name was my bank manager many years ago. As we were going through a period of financial strictures at the time (sadly not much has changed) I took pleasure in picturing him as Ming the Merciless whenever I had a meeting with him.

Menzies Campbell is known as "Ming the Merciless" in political circles.

Well, I think he's blown any chance of leading the party following his humiliation at PM's questions yesterday.

Charles Kennedy may have had a drink problem but he still wouldn't have led us into a stupid war in Iraq.

Confused

Wasn't there a Dead Kennedys song 'Too Drunk To Invade Iraq'. Something like that anyway.
