This is really starting to bug me...

Good people

As some of you may know, I recently upgraded my LP12 – a full report will follow (fairly) shortly (too busy listening to music and working too hard to pay for upgraditis). Am generally very pleased with it, but I am experiencing a problem Ive never had before.

Basically, I'm getting radio interference through my amplifiers (I think the term for it is RF Interference?). It's not always there, and sometimes it's almost inaudible (but sometimes it's quite loud and thus a right pain).

The weird thing is, I never experienced it before - until I got a Lingo 2 for my LP12, that is!

What is it, why does it happen and how can I get rid of it?

My system is LP12-Lingo 2-Cirkus-Ittok LVIII-Esco Klyde-62-HiCap-160-Heybrook HB1s.

Any help or ideas most appreciated.

Thanks

Kevin

The addition of the Lingo, if using the standard lead supplied from Lingo to LP12 removes the mains earth from the turntable.

If you don't have a Naim CDP (or other source that connects mains earth to signal earth) you will have lost this connection when upgrading and this is in all likelihood the source of your problem.

Your dealer should have checked and supplied a different cable for the Lingo (CONN/401E IIRC) that has an earth connection specifically for star-earthed amplifiers, like Naim.

This ONLY applies if the above conditions are true though, check with your dealer.

One spot to verify is the shielding around the tonearm leads. RFI can easily leak into the signal if the shielding doesn't surround the signal wire all the way to terminations.
Good luck.

i use an all naim system with an LP12 - lingo2 as the only source. i've got the 'standard' lingo2 cable and get no RFI problems. this has got me thinking, would the system sound better if audio ground was connected to mains earth ???

Keithy,

if you have a Naim CD player, then the earth should *not* be connected through the LP12 when using Naim amps (as the CDP already does this).

I am confused, though, as I thought that the standard Lingo did connected the earth, and the Conn401/E left it unconnected. Andy normally knows what he's talking about, though.

cheers, Martin
