How to kill a SOLAR Gas Turbine.......

Posted by: arf005 on 13 April 2008

Folks,

came offshore on Friday for another two weeks - discovered the other shift had had a bad trip!

One guy injured his back, they'd had two incidents of spills into the sea, the OIW (Oil In Water) overboard figures had been high all trip with no apparent reason or solution, and they'd managed to kill two turbines....

The first one wasn't all that spectacular - wiped out the speed pick up probe, and killed the hydraulic starter motor. But the other was a bute!!

It is, or was, one of our power turbines and we believe there was a blockage in the drain line off the Fuel Gas Knock-Out pot, resulting in a high level and liquid NGL carry over into the fuel gas supply - the result was a loud bang, confirmed fire, Emergency Shutdown and Fine Water Spray release, and one dead turbine........

If you 're not sure what it should look like then try and imagine shiny clean sharp blades......

Not a cheap one to fix either!!

Cheers,
Ali

I'd say so. That and a bit of WD40 should do it.

Should I send you a couple of tins of Isopon P38 to fill in the gaps?
