So it's NAC552 then...

Just noticed in an ad for the Bristol Sound and Vision Show that the new Naim Pre-amp will be launched and henceforth we shall Naim it 552...

From The Bristol Show site:-

quote:
Naim Audio
Unveiled at the Show is the amazing new NAC552 pre-amplifier. Built to match the NAP500 power amplifier both in terms of looks and sound! We’ve also been promised a few more surprises, more on those as we get news…

Of course, Paul S. said something similar over a month ago...

Hmm, sounds very worthy of a trip.

cheers, Martin

And what will the price be of a NAC552......

... to the nearest £1,000 ......

regarding the normal naim nomenclatur,
i would suspct that the new baby
will get the name: 132

or it may will get 52 again, cause it's
only a bit enhanced ;-)

or, if 13 is a no-number it will get
152 (4 is in japan a no-number,
if i remember the launch of the 5 series
correct.)

have fun listening

Start saving those pennies!! Although you sometimes get 5% off at the Bristol Show - Think how many CDs you could buy with that £750 saving!!

My guess (which is only a hunch) is that it will be an improved 52 in a 500 series case.

The fact that the dimensions of the NAP500 power suppy are the same as existing full case equipment cannot be only coincidence.

(And now I'm really out with the fairies).. once this and a half width Hicap case (in the 500 style is launched) the whole range will go that way following a transitionary period when both old and new style cases will be available - because Naim is a fine company that will make this as painless as possible.

I doubt the NAC552 will have a in-built phono stange - this will be provided by the Stageline which by all accounts is very good.

On second thoughts maybe that's a load of old rubbish.

Does this mean we will be able to buy a £15k switch and volume control?

My guess is that it will be an ultra-super-duper 112 in a 500 series case.

Of course, the 112 is a new design.

I will also re-state my 'long shot' bet that Naim might consider going to balanced connections all the way from the dual-differential outputs of the SACD player to the bridging input of the NAP500.

In today's RF infested world, it has to be a possibility.

...the preamp is in a NAP500 PS sized box.

The PSU will be in the NAP500 box wink

Hi,

My predictions for the 552, dual regulation, will still use a Supercap or a Newcap as an upgrade, resistor ladder volume, more inputs/outputs for multi room/surround sound etc, price about 10K and about 3 to 4K for the Newcap, that's all the leaves will tell me.
