Slim laptop? Express card?

Hi,

Can anyone give me a clue on which laptops will take an express card can and have a slimline profile. Most I've looked at have ditched express card expansion.

Thanks.

Dell Vostro 1015 is a good cheap choice. You can get a dual core, express card slot, 1394, big drive etc. for about $500 US. No HDMI as it's business oriented and is only offered with 32 bit versions of 7 which boggles a bit.

You can get PCMCIA to express card adapters if you don't want to limit your choice.

Thanks for the replies... It does seem to me that all the slimmer laptops don't bother with PCMCIA or express cards.

I'm not too keen on Dells - but will have a look.

Thanks.

It might not be what you're after but I use a Merlin XU870 express card using an express to USB adapter. More cables I know but.................

Hi,

What I'm looking for is a way to interface with a Firewire interface. The interface needs a Texas Instrument chipset and the "tried and tested" way seems to be with an express card that has a TI chipset.

I guess you didn't notice that the dell has firwire included. Not uncommon as you spend more on Sonys, Dells, Lenovos and of course Apples.

Hi js,

I did notice the Dell has a firewire, but I couldn't find out if the chipset is a Texas Instrument - apparently in order to avoid some compatibility issues with the interface, I need to have a TI chipset.

I'll look into the Sonys and Lenovos.
