Using old broadband password

Posted by: Jaseamondo on 16 December 2008

I'm at work and when connecting to the net i am forced to use aol browser(god awful thing) as i don't have the password to let me configure ie7 or firefox. Just discovered that the old pass( previous broadband) which is still saved lets me use these browsers if i want. Dont want my boss to come back to charges though ,Anybody any ideas if thats what would happen?

AOL is just a bunch of shit software with a standard broadband facility behind it.

It I believe installs like a really really evil version of INternet Explorer, even more evil than the original, which makes you do all sorts of shit, none if it necessary but designed to appeal to people who simply do not have a clue.

it completely takes over, even the search engine although powered by google flings up all its own prefered stuff first, not that i am saying google is fair either right enough. It pretends sites dont exist too, clever stuff.

The existence of AOL has baffled me from the first time I ever experienced its crapulent incompetence. Just what is supposed to be the advantage of having your "internet experience" modified and restricted in these bizarre and arbitrary ways?

That Time-Warner paid billions for this piece of sh!+ company baffled me even more.

That it continues to exist at all continues to baffle me.

The important thing to remember as someone who might not be computer savvy (and therefore purchasing AOL) is that its just a broadband service, a broadband service with a packet of terrible shit attached to it that it expects the unwary to install so that you are forced to visit their sites and use their search tools.

Now AOL is all but dead in the water, its not a good site and its not a good search engine. Google won the battle.

So for the last few people in the UK still using this terrible, terrible service rest assured that you can infact delete the whole AOL shit from your computer, go ahead and do it. You'll thank me.

All you need to know is your broadband user name and password, this is usually different to any email passwords and names you may have. For instance BT will give you a broadband password of joebloggs@btbroadband.co.uk and the password will be nothing or bt. But your email will be joe.bloggs@btyahoo.co.uk

So if you have your broadband password this simply needs to be entered into an ADSL modem of your choice. And you are set.

I only really know of AOL because of my sister whos PC was really seriously killed by the software.
