Eclection

Does anyone remember the late sixties folk rock outfit Eclection ? I saw them on a double bill with Family at Loughborough College, in I think 1969. I'd hitched up there primarily to see Family, but as I recall Eclection were the stars of the night. They had a canadion singer, Mike (???) who i'd seen play a brilliant solo set at what I think was Pentangle's first ever gig at the Horseshoe pub at the bottom of Tottenham Court Road, at that time reputed to be the largest bar in London. As well as me, Roy Harper was in the audience that night, sporting his mutton chop whiskers.

The album has some very good moments but has its weaker side too. It's got its folky side (as you'd imagine from those members going on to Fairport and Fotheringay, though not Sailor).

Sadly their best song, a b-side called Mark Time, is not on the re-issued CD (nor for that matter on Forever Changing, the recent collection from Elektra that did include a rare song from when they'd changed their lead singer). Not only was it their best tune, it also has a wonderful baroque trumpet accompaniment courtesy of Rosen.
