Save the Tree! (In Leicester, UK)
Posted by: naim_nymph on 03 July 2009
On Wednesday this week, whilst visiting the most esteemed LP12 doctor on the planet, I took some time out to explore the streets nearby...
After taking a few photos of this and that, along the way, I found myself turning a corner into St Nicholas Place whereupon I saw over the road a magnificent tree which made me wonder (what would an LP12 plinth look like made of it’s wood) ...if there would be some nice shade there under.
Crossing the busy road and nearing the tree I noticed a brightly coloured ribbon tried around the trunk, so I moved in close to investigate. Standing in front of this tree I read a sign that explained how it was doomed to be chopped down!
Comforted only by the soothing shade it freely gave to me in the heat of a glaring sun, I felt a genuine sympathy, and quite some outrage to why these developers would decide to destroy something far more important that anything their simple minds could ever create.
Anyway, my love for trees being the passionate thing it is, I decided to go into the sandwich bar and sign the petition, but unfortunately the guy who was collecting them had only just gone off home for the day!
So I purchased a sandwich instead.
So, I just want to say that if any of you kind hearted folk are visiting Leicester in the near future, please take time to visit this slendid tree and sandwich bar (btw I recommend the Stilton cheese/mushroom/red onion in Granary Roll, yummy!) and see if this petition is still running and in need of your support...
The lady in the sandwich bar told me that the dispute was going well and they believe they may have won.
(700 signatures so far ~ at that moment in time)
But that doesn’t sound like enough to be on the safe side, so if any of you are in this neck of the woods visiting Leicester, please check to see if this dispute is ongoing, and if so please sign the petition!
Thank You! : )
