Anything that goes under the banner R&B these days, or smoothe soul, for god's sake, soul isn't supposed to be smoothe, it's supposed to be raw, just ask James Carr.

What is R&B these days? It seems to be "slickly produced pop where someone involved at some stage is black, or has heard of someone who might be" as far as I can tell...

I´m not in the mood for metal.

Saw them on the Chocolate Kings tour, and which ever was the one before that at the the City Hall in Newcastle many moons ago.

Tight band played some decent tunes, but always sounded better in Italian than the English lyrics

I'm sorry to say this: when i listened to my first blues record (don't remember which btw) i thought i was getting out all that.
Before those days i did like more a "Neu" water and oars vinyl.
If somebody here knows Neu (have no doubt about it).

I have Neu and Neu 2 and they are quite good albums. They were definitely in the vinyl worth keeping pile when I did my recent sort out.

Ohr was a great label - I have several Tangerine Dream albums on Ohr.

Neu, for best or worse, are responsible for much of the electronic music we hear today. Though I did and still think it was better from Neu then their many imitators with two exceptions. Remember guitarist Michael Rother and drummer Klaus Dinger, who were Neu, were in the original Kraftwerk (why won't they re-release those milestone recordings). Neu influenced Florian Schneider. Just play Autobahn (1974) and you'll see what I mean: in many places it sounds like a re-mix of the first Neu album. Of course, I'll say nothing against Kraftwerk, as they took the style on and developed it into something special - they just got better and better as Computer World demonstrates. I don't think Tangerine Dream were influenced by Neu though, they took electronic music in another direction and deserve far more recognition than they are ever likely to get. I saw them live in 1974 and they were incredible - totally hypnotic.

Still the subject was Neu and they don't deserve to be in a What don't you want to listen to right now! thread - IMO, that is.

All the best, Rotf

I've only recently discovered PFM (having previously rather foolishly lumped them in with ELP and ignored them) and Le Orme.

Neu are brilliant (all three albums, as are the first three La Dusseldorf ones. and the two Harmonia (especially Deluxe) albums. In fact most things that Rother and Dinger have been involved in!

If it wasn't for ELP,PFM would have probably stayed an Italy only band, as they were signed by ELP to their Manticore label and got world wide notice.

Quite true. And I only recently found out that PFM weren't the initials of the bands members (a la ELP). Cue embarrassment. Nothing like an Anglophonic view of the world...
