I dont miss him as an artist but you cant deny his talent in Queen or as a solo artist and its a pleasure to listen to his/their CD's every now and then

Good guitarists, drummers, bass players come and go. Good front men - hen's teeth!
Not a huge Queen fan myself, although there are some tracks I enjoy. But nobody can deny the impact that he had.

Re-watching Waynes World with dinner at the moment and the opening sequence in the car with BR belting out with the nerds head banging away is the only way I can enjoy Queen, mainly because I am laughing so hard I can't hear the music.
Sorry.

I miss him - music today needs more characters like him.
And I love Queen, huge, overblown, vaguely ridiculous - but they could play and had great songs, just what 'big rock' should be.
I can never understand why some people are so poe faced about Queen!

Radio Ga Ga was, I grant you, not a high spot but what about Bohemian Rhapsody, Killer Queen, We Are the Chapions etc . . .
Cringesome is harsh . . . and missing the point IMHO.

Okay, I'm going to stick my head above the parapet and own up to quite liking Radio Ga Ga, and, indeed, most of Queen's output. A Night at the Opera would make it fairly high up my list of favourite albums.

Definitely one of the greatest evcer rock bands, and Freddies vocal talents are unsurpassed in the rock arena - both male and female... In fact his recordings with Monserrat really show how good his vocal talents were.

No sorry I don't miss him or his songs, but it was sad what happened to him.
As for Queen, I don't have any of their records and agree with the other about Bohemian Rhapsody - it's rubbish. Though not as bad as We are the Champions - I hate that song.
I much prefer the Desparate Bicycles - now they were a great band.

I was 13 when Bohemian Rhapsody came in the charts. I, even then, had next to no interest in pop, but it seeped through, and I listened with great pleasure to it at the the time, and as there was (later) usually a radio on at work, I ended up knowing and enjoying Queen's work very much. At least they had talent and personality. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but I for one was sad when FM died. Though just to show how innocent I am, I had no idea why either! That seemed to make it all the sadder for me. So I agree with you Tam!
All the best from Fredrik

interesting coments...I have over 5000 lps and have been into music all my life......to me Freddie was one of a kind....I like all their lps....if I had to pick one...it would be Queen 2...especially side black....just a work of art.

I pretty much went off them as they began to achieve commercial greatness. Saw them live three times and have to give Freddie the gong for great showmanship and professionalism. The Live Aid set was the expected run through of kitch nonsense, but I don’t think I’ve seen many better performances from a front man. I still dig it out and watch it occasionally (along with a few other acts on the day) for the sheer swaggering majesty of it. Great stuff.

There are some things to which one should never admit in public, and that's one of them!
As for Bohemian Rhapsody, it is a toe-curling atrocity, such that no sane adult may abide the hideous vulgarity thereof.

I like the ideea of Freddie Mercury, and apprently he was a very nice bloke. I especially like the idea of a man who threw orgiastic parties at which naked dwarves carried around silver platters piled high with cocaine.
Unfortunately the reality of Queen (Brian May's hair and clogs, Roger Taylor's personality, and, worst of all, the music) is so ghastly that I have to say, on balance, I don't miss him. However Queen with Freddie Mercury is marginally less appaling a prospect than "Queen" with Paul Rogers.
What happened to John Deacon BTW? At least he had the grace to disappear...

For those who think Queen were good, and to those who think they were not, what objective criteria have you used to reach that conclusion? Because if the criteria were truly objective, there would be no disagreement.
Posted on: 19 January 2006 by Kevin-W
Queen are inexcusable. Awful. An affront. Terrible. Shit. It's as simple as that. Those are my criteria. And I'm always right in these things...
How can you apply objective criteria to the masurement of the merit of a pop group? You can't, athough any sentient being knows Queen were, are and always will be unmitigated shite.

I'm suprised at...no I'm not come to think about it for a nano-second. How do Queen compare to Boney M [saw on the news last night someonr thinks they deserve a West End musical. Now that I am suprised at.]

I think the likes of FM and co are sadly missed today. The whole music industry is bland and predictable in comparison today. The music company's are to worried about profits and shareholders dividend than music.
What ever happened to the carefree days of the seventies where bands could experiment with music and allow their personalities to come through in the music.
I miss the music of people like Freddie badly. I think the whole industry has lost its direction and identity at present.
