I'm curious

Just recently I've noticed a certain frustration with people who don't see fit to apologise, whenver I've upset someone I will almost immediately say 'sorry'. However when I've been upset by other people and have explained this to them I very rarely seem to get an apology - this especially appears to apply with women.
I'm really trying hard not to be sexist and I understand they're the fairer sex and all that, but it doesn't seem particularly fair to me, after all men have feelings don't they?

No no it's true. It's a well known phenomenon in sports. When women get into a fight during a match, they won't speak to members of the competitive squad for years. With men, they go and have drink afterwards and laugh about it.
For women a simple sorry isn't enough, so perhaps that's why they don't apologize that much? Or maybe men have a lot more to apologize for

It's just the way one is brought up. Them, not you.
There are rumours that frontline staff in the human transaction arena are viciously tortured for weeks in intensive training. Simply to avoid all possibility of an apology slipping out accidentally.
To do so would be an admission of guilt. The conequences of which could be slightly increased insurance premiums to cover the deliberate genocide of thousands of one's customers.
Meanwhile, careful study of the danish dictionary suggests that such a word once existed for this very purpose over here. But fell out of common usage some time ago.
Unskyld

This is extremely tricky as almost anything said here now will be seen as sexist,.....
The issue is with women up to, say, 45. It's a generation thing.
It's true that when in a car and trying to get into the flow of traffic, you will never be let out by a woman. In fact, they will most likely stop right in front of you to prevent you edging out. I think it's to do with being blinkered and that their horizon finishes 1 mitre in front of them. Take womens magazines: Nothing about anything going on anywhere, national or international issues or interests: nothing! It's just , me, me, me, bags, food, shoes, massage, pampering, reality programmes, soaps on TV, me, me, me.
Women, quite rightly, became empowered in the 80's & 90's and decided en-masse to stop being treated as dogsbodies. Now, women can't cook, to the extent that Gordon Ramsey is campaigning to get women into the kitchen, but this current generation haven't a clue and have never, ever cooked. Men cook. Men can cook real food and women go to Iceland. The real problem, is that the current generation of young women have blown it by, not becoming empowered, but becoming almost redundant . I heard on the radio today that a recent study has shown that 9% of all men have now visited a prostitute, which is over double the previous poll. That's no coincidence.
I think it's more to do with the total breakdown of womankind as women have been given the power, but have no idea of what to do with it except take the easy ride and do nothing much, at all, really, I'll just sit and read Now!!!, or Hello!! or More!!!.
These are funny times, but with a reaction to the current lack of female culture and loss of identity, balance will be restored. But women need to do something positive with their freedom first that puts them back as having an important role, which is totally missing right now.
It's a shame because there should be equality, and sexism cleared completely away by now. The chance, I'm afraid, has been squandered. Women unfortunately chose to be confrontational and not diplomatic. It is, as you say Fisbey, in their nature to be that way. It's done nothing but harm to their status. Womankind currently is undergoing a crisis.
This is NOT a rant or a moan. This is a serious matter. I do not believe that the old fashioned womens role was right. I believe in total equality. I'd laugh about it if it wasn't so tragic.

No. That's a disgraceful admission that 9% men really don't give a f*ck about women. By coincidence I also heard on the TV today that vast numbers of the world's poverty stricken women are being treated as sex slaves, trafficked like animals and treated like possessions. All just so 9% of men can hide their cherries for the profit of others?
There is also a thriving trade in sex holidays to Eastern Europe now. Coincidence? No. Men will hide their cherries anywhere they can get away with it. Prostitutes, battered sex slaves, drug addicts, little boys, little girls... they don't care as long as there's a victim.
Let's hope the 9% all get HIV for their "trouble". If only to rid the world of the 9% verminous DNA amongst men.

I'm not too sure it's in their nature Rasher, but I know what you mean. I'm sure a persons upbringing has an effect on all this as does peer pressure. But I do the feeling (which I think is what you were hinting at) that it's almost a revenge type thing IE we've been second to men for ages now it's our turn....
Having said that I'm not sure either gender has much of a clue about 'power' really...
I work in an office with four or more women and they moan about men the same as blokes moan about women - it gets really boring!
Interesting subject.

Exactly!!
Apart from your last line, (which can be overlooked as getting carried away) I agree with you wholeheartedly on everything you say. That's why this whole falling apart of the fabric of the roles and identities of the sexes is so tragic. It's become a gender war, but once again women are on the losing side because they themselves messed it up.
I would be wary of blaming the sex trade entirely on men too. There are some evil bastards out there of both genders. I know what you are saying about men going on sex holidays to eastern Europe, but the behaviour and general sordidness of young women getting paralytic and going on shagging holidays really isn't all that different considering that none of these people have ever thought about, or care, about the politics of what they are doing. What is even more incredible is that channels like Sky appear to be promoting it, by making TV programmes and creating celebrities out of some lowlife. Watched mainly by women, I might add.
Christ..I sound old.
I just want women to grasp the opportunity of equality and use it to good effect, instead of pissing it away like they are right now.

It doesn't come across as sexist at all. It comes across as prejudiced. What you see reinforces what you already think. Your anecdotes inform your opinions.

Deane,
The trick here is to look beyond the overtly sexist aspect of Rasher's post; in fact he's helped you do this by admitting first up that what he was going to say was sexist!
And, having thought about it, he's IMO absolutely right. Women give the impression they are on a revenge mission for all the repression they suffered in former times as being forever the home-maker, washing and cleaning up after their man who took the better paid jobs and enjoyed the higher standard of living.
Now that women have turned this around have attained, to a certain extent, level pegging they are saying, "right men, fuck the lot of you, we're better than you and always were!"
Or something like that.
How does the saying go...when in a hole....
Cheers,
Jon

Perhaps women are simply over-reacting to a few positive GCE exam results and have let it go to their heads?
I'm not sure whether they record the results for transexuals at 'A' levels..?
Can one do GCE Cooking?

Rasher actually gave himself away when he disapproved of an entire class of humans distinguished from other humans entirely by their ownership of vaginas.

Deane,
Like a lot of Rasher's posts what he wrote in this thread is certainly thought-provoking but if you're suggesting he's some sort of dyed-in-the-wool misogynist then I think you're wide of the mark.

Excuse me?
I most certainly do not disapprove of all women! Where on earth are you get that generalisation from? I am suggesting that there is a case that some women have taken their new found status (about time too) fought for by the female activists of the 60's, 70's & 80's, and have decided that the best thing to do is nothing. Men have been made to find their feminine side and be capable all round humans (again, about time too), but many women have decided that this can be an opportunity to dumb down and do nothing at all but be couch potatoes and contribute nothing. Incidentally, 2 out of every 3 new lawyers are women, so there is an element that are taking the initiative, but they (this is a fact) tend to not contribute at home to the tasks that men have had to adopt as well as their professions. I do not disapprove, but I am disappointed in general. I don't know whether your computer Deane is throwing capitals up, but I am trying to make a reasoned point and trying not to sound as though I am shouting or ranting. I was trying to stress that this isn't a rant .
I WANT women to be equal (sorry, I shouted), but they are blowing their chance with the current generation who seem angry, soaked in booze, and only interested in tabloid celebrities. Maybe the situation in NZ is radically different to ours (I'm sure it is) and you may not be familiar with the current state of "family" and "community" over here.
Deane, read my posts again and remove the presumption that I am a woman hater. Please.
Fisbey - I'll get you for this!

If I thought you were a misogynist I would use the word in my post.
I don't think women owe anybody anything. Liberation does not impute some responsibility to do a particular thing with the liberty.
That's why it's called liberty.

Good. As I understand it, a misogynist hates women just because they are women. I was merely voicing a critisicm of one aspect of the behaviour of the current generation.
Liberty. Yes. Funny old thing that, like people saying youth is wasted on the young.

Just back into your corner, dress your wounds, rest a while and come back out fighting. I may not agree with all you have said but I fully support your right to voice your opinion. Political correctness has gone too far and its a shame that people are brow beaten into toeing the line. Why can we not voice an opinion about a sensitive subject (gender, race, politics etc) without that opinion being construed as some sort of "ism"? Women being considered second class citizens because they are women is sexist. Commentary on the pros and cons of how women of today benefit themselves or society as a whole is not sexist IMHO.

Well, Merto, I guess it's that whole "free speech" thing. If you are sure of your opinion then how can you be brow beaten? And if you argue your opinion well then what does it matter if it is a sensitive subject?
Posted on: 06 December 2005 by Merto
I agree completely Dean. If you are sure then voice your opinion and if you are not sure then your opinion should still be valid as such, an opinion and not sexism or whatever other 'ism'. It just that it seemed to me that during this thread there were valid opinions dismissed as sexism, however well argued and worse, comments referring to a reluctance to opinionate due to the possibility of those comments being misconstrued......its a shame really and it flies in the face of free speech.
