At risk of flouting copyright laws, I saw this letter in the Radio Times and it had me in stitches:

quote:

Title Characters

Well done ITV4 for showing a crime drama called Martial Law (Mondays). It's about a detective called Law... who does martial arts. This follows a tradition of implausible detective shows with awkwardly punning titles, Rosemary and Thyme being a recent British example. I want more shows like this. I suggest:

Rough Justice: unshaven, violent maverick cop Eric Justice investigates murders on the notoriously choppy Penzance-St Mary's ferry crossing.

Suspended Sentence: disgraced Chief Constable Brian Sentence has his badge taken away, but vows to clear his name - while still catching criminals.

Hammer and Nails: carpenters Steve Hammer and Tommy "Nails" Smith stumble across and solve murder cases while at work, dispensing home-improvement tips along the way. Episode one: Hammer's suspicions are aroused when a lumberyard employee falls into the wood chipper, while Nails creates some ingenious under-stairs shelving.

Kangaroo Court: a failed scientific experiment has left private investigator Trevor Court with springs for legs. Undeterred, he bounces around the Australian Outback dispensing his own kind of justice. The cops are out to get him; marsupials are his only friends.

TV commissioners! I'm waiting for your call.

Justly, he won the best letter prize.
