Disconnecting neon light in a extension block.

Can anyone tell me how to disconnect the neon light in an extension block i have? Going to be using it for my turntable, napsc and other bits. Already have a hydra for my naim gear that has IECs.

I'd connect the napsc to the hydra is you have a spare head - if the napsc is the version with the captive mains lead, just fit a female IEC to the end and plug the hydra in. Rather than use a mains block for the other stuff, I'd get a Maplins multiplug, which will work better and only cost £6.50.
I certainly would not recommend mains block surgery on this forum.

I wouldn't suggest plugging the NAPSC into the hydra.
For question on surgery, you need to go to PFM.

My NAPSC is on my Hydra - it sounds fine.

Buy a mains block without a Neon!
Try Woolworths they were £3.99 when I got mine.
If a NAPSC 1 do not go down the hydra route.

It is a napsc with captive lead that i have. I also need to plug in my turntable to something and occasional use of a SACD player too so i need an extension block of some kind.
I just wondered with blocks such as the missing link one that has the neon disconnected, how to go about doing this.

It is not worth the effort of trying to make the block safe afterwards. Don't bother.

What do the companies that sell them disconnected (Russ Andrews, Missing Link etc.) do that makes them safe?

I have a Duraplug 4 way trailing socket, and removing the neon was a doddle. The neon was simply connected to the L & N terminals by flying leads. I removed the flying leads from the terminals, removed the neon and bob was indeed my uncle. The neon is safe 'cos it ain't there anymore. Just remember to unplug the trailing socket from the wall socket first!!

Will open it up and have a look at doing this.

There is a small safety issue in that the absence of the neon light could lead to someone mistakenly thinking the block was not connected to the mains. I suggest covering up the light so that nobody can do this.

Hi Alan,
It does not make them safe but does stop possible hum/noise being generated by them.
