Naim That TopGear!
Posted by: Tony Lockhart on 03 April 2001
Can anyone name the gear shown incidentally on Top Gear tonight? That turntable was beautiful. I recognised it, but can't recall it's name. And I'm sure there was some 5 series stuff at the back somewhere!

Yes,two pieces of Hi Fi towards the top on the left hand rack certainly looked to be Naim (looks like Channel 4's "Driven" have good taste too !). Looks like the newer kit...)
Anyone care to elaborate ?
Regards
Chris

I would have hazarded a guess that the other gear was Arcam FMJ. But that turntable....drool!

Was a Gyrodeck SE wasn't it?

Arcam DV88 £900 DVD player, Arcam AV100 surround sound amp and a couple of DVD players I didn't recognise (probably Sony). The Naim gear seemed like flatcap2 and/or Naim 150 power amp sitting under a Rega P25 on a Partington Tabla Pro stand (not very good) - couldn't see if there was a 112 preamp in there.
The record deck was a Michell Gyro SE with RB300 arm and Rega Elys cartridge.
Holy sh*t - I picked up all that on two brief glimpses??? I'm getting really sad....
Regards,
Frank.

Sad to some maybe. Good fun and a rare glimpse of equipment on tv for others. Er, anyone care to mention other sightings of things hi-fi in the background on tv or film?

Well, on 'The Comic Strip Presents' ' Bad News Tour', Vim Fuego (played by Rik Mayall) had a 32/HICAP/250 and a LP12. And Inspector Morse had a Roksan Xerxes for a while....And of course there's the old Michell Transcriptor (I think) in Clockwork Orange.

Was that a VPI TNT that Robert Redford used in Indecent Proposal?

An episode of "Bugs" had the character played by Jesse Birdsall stacking an LP12 on a rack with some other Linn black boxes below.
It was about the only episode of the BBC series I happened to see.

... which used the Linn CD 12 production line to suggest that the CD 12 transport was good enough to use as a cup holder?
cheers

I (somewhat sadly) noticed Martin Logans, and a Rega Turntable with Elys, in "What women want" in Mel's character's apartment. At least he was playing vinyl!
Rico - all your base are belong to us.

wasn't it VW - passat maybe.
Also wasn't there a whole episode of Morse about a turntable company (must have been in the early days of CD) that used a Xerxes?
