New stash

I've posted on here recently I"ve been given 2 people's collections of LPs. Vi certainly had eclectic taste. Some that I know nothing about but come from the experimental and concept albums.
Gentle Giant - Three Friends
Love- Forever Changes
The Illinois Speed Press
The Seeds - A Web of Sound
anyone know these obscure groups? Gentle giant is on now, in great condition, haven't heard the others.
Oh and I now have a 2nd Blind Faith album and I think the whole run of Doors albums except for Strange Days, and Zappa's Freak Out. I've never heard a whole Zappa album. I think I'm gonna have to get loaded to handle all this stuff.

Magnificent record - I wouldn't call it obscure as it's often cited as the best record ever and with good reason.quote:Love- Forever Changes
I have most of Gentle Giant's output and I often respond to those who don't understand my love of progressive rock music by posting a picture of GG's essential compilation called Pretentious for the sake of it. Three friends is a super album and based on stories that GG thought three friends might sit around and talk about. GG grew from the ashes of Simon Dupree and the Big Sound who released one of the great singles of the sixties: Kites. However GG progressed quickly and where they excel is their use of voices.
I'm not familiar with The Illinois Speed Press and have only briefly heard the Seeds.
Freak Out is FZ's debut and caused quite a stir when it came out. Katie Boyle on juke box jury didn't like it all and famously voted Who Are the Brain Police? a miss. She was right as it never made the hit parade. This album is consistent and the second disc is quite a difficult listen except for the super Trouble Every Day and it does have one of my favourite Zappa tracks It Can't Happen Here. The first disk has much to admire and tracks like Motherly Love and I'm Not Satisfied are in their classic form.
You have some great listening in front of you; the Doors and Blind Faith (don't know their second disc) had some good moments. However, if I could choose only one of your discs then it would have to be Forever Changes.

Main man in Illinois Speed Press was Paul Cotton who I believe went on to join a later period of Poco (ie not the original). I thought the initial ISP album was great back when I originally owned it but when I listened 20-some years later, not so much.
Have fun exploring, ... oh, ...and getting high.

Forever Changes is a classic. A truly deranged (in the best possible sense) epic masterpiece, and a brillianr one off. It could have been a self indulgent mess but Arthur Lee (the group's leader) was a big fan of Burt Bacharach, whose influence is all over the album and keeps it tight and melodic. I envy you hearing it for the firat time.

Oh Yes!! You lucky devil Love's Forever Changes is indeed one of the greatest albums of all time. I am a big fan of Arthur Lee although some of his other stuff was patchy to say the least. Never ever quite hit the heights of this great LP.

OK munch just to spice it up a bit I found this in the White Album, just got it back from the framer.

framer said glass would be too heavy, the important part is it is UV resistant. Otherwise it would fade over time. He was amazed it was in such good condition. It'll hang on the shadowed wall in back of my computer for a year 3 feet out of direct sun.
I have 3 of my etchings close to this size in glass, they're terrible to hang. I'm thinking of having those done in UV plexi. Here in quake country it's really important.
