The Pepsi Challenge.

I've always preferred Coke. Also, I hate apples but quite like pears.

I'd like to set up a Coke v Coke challenge. Coca Cola insists that the flat, oversweetened drink it sells in the UK is exactly the same as its US counterpart. I haven't tasted American coke for more than twenty years but everyone I have asked, so far, who has tasted both has agreed with me that American Coke tastes better.

And what about the Wrigleys v Wrigleys test? I bought some gum a year or two ago for the first time in many years, and it tasted disgusting. I looked at the ingredients and it contained sweeteners and other alien substances.

What is the world coming to?

And what about Jiff bath cleaner? Is it really the same product now that it's been renamed Cif?

This calls for investigative journalism of the highest order - send for the BBC!

Government Health Warning: Coke can be harmful if inhaled in large quantities.

re. Coke vs. Pepsi

I prefer the more expensive brand.

Pepsi is the superior beverage, even with the flavour variants. Even though Coke was the first to bring out the vanilla cola, the Pepsi product is much better tasting.

Then again, there are those who still prefer the Apple world to the IBM world Wink

We all know that Coke gets everywhere and that gets up my nose but, strangely, in deepest Sudan the only thing I could find was Vimto. It was about the same price as bootleg Etheopian date brandy but rather less interesting.

Steve, I'll field this one, the coke in question comes from europe direct and costs about a third cheaper than going to Bookers, so there you go,

FWIW I prefer the post mix cola's from a tap, they are normally not so sweet.

I don't buy it. There's no way Coke would dilute the brand by selling a fucked up version to people in the UK.

My guess is that if you guys drink your beverages without ice (like the tossers in Austria and Switzerland) then of course your coke is going to taste like hammered shit.

A proper carbonated beverage of the Coke/Pepsi/Sprite variety is served in a glass full to the rim with ice and the beverage introduced only to fill the voids. A single can should require 3 pourings into a standard pint glass. Drink up fast.

I seem to remember reading that Coke's franchises' syrup formulas do differ in various countries to suit differences in acceptance of sweetness, genetically modified corn syrup base, etc. It could've been a strange dream too, I don't know.

Pun intended? At least the powdered kind doesn't give you gut rot - just septum rot!

US Coke is much nicer than English - and their Cherry Coke is even better. Classic Coke is good too - all based on my 1992 trip to the States this is.

Over here, Pepsi is king for me. It also works better on hangovers - a can of cold Pepsi will bring me round; Coke makes me more sick...

What's with Cif anyway - crap name, just like flippin' Snickers...

Tell me what you think after you visit the UK. Smile

The recipe between the US and UK probably is different. I know that Heinz ketchup is different ( sweetness ) between the US and Canada. Also, some Coke-heads claim to be able to tell at which plant the beverage originated.

I prefer Pepsi to drink straight.
If using for bourbon mix ( Jim or Jack ) then Coke gets my vote.

you'd better believe it! It tastes different in every country, and varies wildly down here. I have found the best Coca Cola is found in the US.

I always maintained that coke was healthier with alcohol in it to kill off all the nasties!

But hey, I've sworn off it. Coke has a similar glycemic index to white rice - which my body doesn't require for healthy function.
